LOLWUT.

Svhost is a system process and is part of Windows. You get rid of it, you successfully destroy your install of Windows.

I did typo.

Svchost.exe is a vital system process. If you close it (or any of its instances, really), you compromise the stability of your system...and it WILL cause problems.

I myself had 13 instances of it running.

Let me tell you what it is not: On Windows XP, 2000, and 2003, svchost is not a virus. On those systems, svchost is a required system component. If you happen to successfully delete it, your system will not run. You'll be much worse off than before. (Win95, 98, and Me users, see Note 1.)

Do not delete svchost.exe. Don't even think about it.
Note: The article was written in 2004, which is why Vista/7 aren't mentioned in the first sentence.

That's not from svchost...
That's from a legit virus.

If you're unable to install an antivirus software, disconnect your harddrive and connect it to an external enclosure and then plug it into another computer and scan it.

actually, ive had problems with svchost.exe that include virus's too. they usually are virus's that connect to a home site (ex. a keylogger that records data online)

its almost impossible to tell which instance of 'svchost.exe' is the one causing the virus, but usually if you find/stop the virus, it will also stop the extra instances of it.

you must find where it is C:documents system 32 etc.. some viruses are made to mimic this process, and make them harder to sopt.

you want to fix it? insert your windows disk, hold the power button until it goes off, turn it on, and at the prompt press any key to boot from disk. lol
