ok so i've decided to enter
im not sure if ill get all the mods i want to finished by the end
but its worth a try

ok so im modding a 360 pad, (going to town tomoro to see if i can pick 1 up second hand.)

planned mods

-move left anolog stick
-build custom D-pad
-ROL color change
-lit dome
-lit start+back???
-ABXY chaser
-RF B on extra face mounted button.----Scrapped 29/10/09
-Programmable rf (lugnuts code)
-Back lit triggers
-spray job (going to need it after the case rework for the anolog and d-pad swoop.)

Proggess so far: 26/10/09
i have 2 spare cases to cut up for the front half.
led's and chips tactile and other electrics are on order.
stock pic will be uploaded tomoro when i get the controller.
(fingers crossed they have a black one in)

update: 27/10/09

i found a second hand pad in my local cash converts
its black and its CG (bonus)

ok so i've got the pad first things to do is the D-pad wiring and moving that anolog stick....

ok first sorry for the double post but i have tried to modify the other post to add this section in, but it keps saying server error contact acidmods webmaster?????????

so yeah here's the update on my pad..........

update: 27/10/09 evening....

ok so i got the pad and stripped it down a bit....

moved the placement of the anolog, ran the wire's for the D-pad and put the trigger back on...

cut out the old anolog suround and d-pad housing..

cut out the anolog housing from another spare case and mounted it in the new position

and last bit for today was. make a second B on the front case.
and i built the custom D-pad....

tomoro i plan on fibre-glassing and filling the front case.
then mounting the tactiles for the new d-pad and second B on the PCB...

update 27/10/09 late...ish
bin looking at the Dpad....
dont like it.....
ripping it out and doing it again tomoro.....

note.... i've just noticed i got the date wrong yesterday... lol put 27th on everything and it was only the 26th....
lol it'snow the 27th....

ok so for todays update.. on the actual 27th lol....

ok so today i ripped out that other d-pad thing i made up.....

Made a new better 1 its awsome....

i filled around the anolog and in the 1234 start and back on the front of the case.

wired up my new d-pad.
then put the pad together to test it out.....
my findings were
i need to shave a little out from under the dpad as it fools up on the led i fitted under it.. and you cant push left/up with it.
and i need to sand some more from the inside of the anolog housing as it also rubs a little. nothing to bad then... so other then that it all works great so far......

and powered up, my battery was flat... so its on charge....

As for tomoro. i plan on fixing the problems i found in test today.....
maybe try out a secret mod i just thought of and start fitting the LED's and chip's....
also sand the front case som more ready for spraying..... arg im not good at spraying....... and a cant decide on a color or design......

i want the finished pad to look like a factory made controller. but better....
as in the moved anolog and revised dpad...
talking of that dpad.....
ive bin playing on it all evening and its great.....
i was on gears2 and didnt get the wrong weapon out once... oh yeah.... not sure how well it will work in say street fighter. but on games where the dpad is just a menu selection tool or something of that sort... it seems to be spot on...

yeah my unmodded contoller was black.... im still using the black back of the case. but i hacked up 2spare white case's to make the front....

i only wanted a black pad cos i wanted the back black....
im not a fan of spraying the back of the case as it always takes mor abuse. so thought i'd leave the back stock black and spray the front.... still not sure on the spray job though......

yeah the power button does stick out a bit but probilly will be sprayed over... and its not a power button anymore its a dpad... and it works oh so much better then the standard dpad.

Also, are you using fiber glass to fill in holes and secure the moved thumbstick? or is it polyfiller?

but so far it seems to be ok so now ill av a spare black case to mess about with next time i try the anolog move....

for securing it i found that the anolog houseing fitted inside the dpad housing on the inside of the (the tube bits the go down to the pcb.
so i used a plastic glue to melt the to tubes together and there you go secure as possible as the 2 peices are now 1.
then i filled over the top. a bit to much and sanded it away til i was happy. i udes ISOPON P38 car body filler... (i had som in the shed for a body panel repair i did on my car earlier in the year and found working with it was easy...

Ive never tried car body-filler.. ill have to pick some up next time im making another controller re-design.. Fiberglass is perfects though!

yeah i was going to fibre glass over the dpad and around the anolog but it was such a good fit there was really no need as you can see from the pics before i filled it, it was only a small seem to fill.
also make sure u use a more flexible filler else it will crack adventually..

ok so the last 2 days went backwards a little .....
i decided to remove the RF B
and in prep for spraying i had to take off the D-pad....
but all is good...

update: 29/10/09

so i stripped it back down.

took the D-pad out...

filled RF B and finished sanding the case ready for paint...
it is in the shed drying at the moment. (fingers crossed it turns out ok...)

took apart the bumper section ready for....

.... a part swoop.

then changed this ....

... to this....

for tomoro i plan to check the paint job...
if its ok... ill install the Dpad and start on the RF
if it's bad ill sand it down and do it again...

update: 30/10/09

ok so i went down to the shed this morning to check my paint job...

not bad....
still not 100% dry so wont be doing anything with it til tomoro or monday maybe...

so i started on fitting chips and what not...

the Rapid fire chip... (lugnuts programmable 3button code..)

the flasher chip (with xmas star hex on it...)

after that i....

fitted trigger lights...
and...

lit the dome up...

i also messed about with the D-pad a little. maybe a video later if it uploads before i go out....

ok so im kind of finished.....
not 100% happy with the paint....
i may do a bit of a design on it .....

update 5/11/09

i re-fitted the new dpad....

addded the rapid fire buttons....

drilled out the ABXY

put LED's in the ABXY and wired them to the flasher chip....

put in a new power source.....
not sure if ill keep this in there... i need to test it more before i decide.... but it seems to be working.....

and put it all together......
there will be a video soon....
just thinkin if i should paint a black design on it or not...

are you going to paint the back white too? and try taking pictures in the darks so the leds look better. I want this one to win over the guy who does led overkill because at lease this one took a lot more work to get it that way.

not sure about painting the back white..... think i may paint the front black instead... or well most of it black with a design of som sort......
and yeah i need a better photo/video showing all of the led's.... but thats will be done when im hppy with the paint on it....

ok so here's todays update....
i dismantled the pad a bit
and paiinted it black.....
it looks much better now..... also i have got hold of a clear battery back so when the controller is togeather u'll be able to see the substitute power source....

update 7/11/09

so yeah its black

im not sure which buttons to use black or white....

the shell looks much nicer now....

i might spray those spare anologs white and see how they look...

hopefully will put it all together tomoro. with or without white anologs and possibly make the video showing full use of the pad.

-different color RF indication light.... (new mod)

-Back lit triggers blue.
-multi colored ROL. (pl.1 blue, pl.2 yellow, pl.3 green pl.4 red)
-color changing D-pad. (new mod)
-Lit dome blue
-chaser ABXY lights... (xmas star code/ new mod)
-paint job....

the only mod i didnt do that i planned on was a rapid fire B on as a extra face button...
i didnt think i'd be able to fit a 3rd chip in so a dropped this mod quite early on...

ok so no update today..... i got a bit smashed last night so wont be puting the pad back together til tomoro....
but i have decided on a name for it......

and the pad changed from, black to white to black and white and now black
so yeah i think cameleon is a fitting name for my controller lol

i was playing on it last night and i dont think ill ever use a normal controller again...
having that anolog in a different place is so nice
makes for smoother movement and less hand cramp after long sessions on games.....
and again i was playing gears last night... (its triple exp at the mo)
and didnt get the wrong weapon out once with that dpad. it really does the trick....

so all in all im impressed with myself i never thought i'd be able to do it as this is my first contoller redesign. and it works great....
also notice the black paint on the front half of the case is a dam near perfect match for the standard black back half of the case.......

Yea im hoping one day to make controller similar to yours but have all my finger have access to all the buttons at once. Makes you much faster i believe then moving your fingers to push a button then having them right on the button.

But any ways its a great job man. Especially if its your first time.

i scrapped the extra b (rapid fire B) because i didnt think i'd be able to fit a third chip i the pad.... im sure i could of now after closing the controller was so easy ....
no wires or anything got in the way it just popped shut like a standard pad lol

sorry there's no final vid yet.... i got MW2 and it seems to have stolen my life for the last 2 day's lol...

mods fitted in this pad...

-moved left anolog to dpad position...
-moved dpad to left anolog position
-re-designed the d-pad...
-multi colored ROL
-lit color changing D-pad... (new mod)
-blue back lit triggers...
-white rapid fire indaction on player4 ( new mod)
-ABXY flash , xmas star code (new mod)#
-lug nuts 3 button programmable rapid fire code installed...
-black and white paint and parts...

Parts List:
- 1 x black xbox 360 controller (standard)
- 2 x white xbox 360 controller fronts (spares)
- 1 set of black anologs (removed from a halo limited edition pad)
- 1 set of white start/back buttons
- 1 set of white bumper buttons and sycn button
- 1 white console faceplate power button
- 1 white battery cover
- 2 x pic12f683
- 7 x 6mm tactile buttons
- 4 x 100ohm resistors
- 1 x 10k resistor
- 1 x 20ohm resistor
- 5 x blue 5mm leds
- 2 x yellow 5mm leds
- 1 x red 5mm led
- 2 x blue 0603 leds
- 2 x green 0603 leds
- 2 x yellow 0603 leds
- 2 x red 0603 leds
- 1 x white 0603 led

- and some filler, plastic glue, white and black spray paint to make the front case.

and the codes used on the pic12f683's are
-programmable 3button rapid fire from lugnut
-xmas star.hex from pic projects.com for the ABXY flasher

if this doesn't win the mod off I don't know what will. The only thing you can do now is basically add more leds to it.

Quick drill a bunch of random holes in unconformable places of the controller and put leds in them.

ive just updated my last post (final vid post)
with a parts used list and a thanks you to all the people who helped me make this pad.... evan though most of them didnt know they helped out.......

what kind of filler is it? Where did you get it? How much is it? I'm doing a project similar to this one and i need that filler your using but i have no idea what its called or where to find it. oh and that is a super sick controller!!

Edit: Will the bondo for cars work?

i used isopon p38.... it's a flexible car body filler.... similar to bondo.....

so that might work... but make sure it is a bit flexible else it may crack....
