After Effects CS5 will be 64 bit native
« on: October 29, 2009, 07:50:04 PM »
Not fresh news but After Effects CS5 will be shipping as a 64-bit only application which requires a 64 bit operating system.   There are very important advantages that I’ll let you read about from the Adobe Product Manager but the main benefits are speed and the ability to utilize more RAM for rendering and previewing.  Hopefully this will put an end of “Out of memory errors” for good!

Adobe needed to finally step up and take on this monster task of supporting 64 bit to finally take advantage of modern hardware.  As a note, the requirements for running 64 bit are not very steep, but if you do build out your machine, it will be able to take advantage of the extra power. No word on Adobe System requirements yet…

So if you’re upgrading to Windows 7, you might want to reach for the 64 bit version, if you’re on Mac you are already 64 bit since the last few versions. Please share your productive thoughts and ring-in at the survey on the right.

i think this is great news as the more apps that start to exclusively support 64bit the more prolific and supported it will become. you need big players like adobe to start the trend so that other software companies start to support 64bit as currently there are lots of apps that dont even work on 64 bit windows and theres always the issues of drivers for 64 bit which will hopefully fix itself with this. so im all for it and say bring it on. the biggest thing im looking forward to is the ability to export flash apps as iphone apps

i am not responsible for what i do or my advice

I'm happy that it's doing this, but, they should still offer a 64 bit version. I just never liked having to deal with the lack of drivers.

i take it you mean 32-bit

and no, they shouldnt. somply because they're trying to kickstart mainstream 64-bit computing. if they still offered x86 that would make the attempt null and void.

i use 64-bit photoshop and lightroom atm yay

Yeah, I meant to say 32 bit.
I suppose that it's a good thing. Looks like my new PC will be on x64. I will only have 4GB RAM, but that means that I could upgrade to higher whenever I want. Wow. This IS a good thing!
