homemade tattoo gun
« on: November 12, 2009, 11:37:06 AM »
well first of, if i cant post this then sorry, i'll delete it if i have to.

basically,
i followed a guide to made one on instructables,
link: http://www.instructables.com/id/easy_homemade_tattoo_gun/

it says to hold the guitar string in place with an eraser,
i've tried this but it turns too quickly and flies off :/
any ideas what i can use instead?
secondly,
the guitar string is bent, so when its out of the pen/pencil is goes of at an angle :/
how could i straighten this out?

i was going to buy a pro one, but they're either to cheap which leads me to beleive they'll be bad quality or too expensive :S.

cheers :)

dude tattoos are not to  be played around with.... be careful and just be aware of what you are getting yourself into like treemty said....
  you look like a carrot.
My nickname at school is carrot cake, because i can't get tan. I get orange. and my face is shaped like a carrot. And i make a mean carrot cake.

Buy a new guitar string.

Go to home depot and find a wooden dowel a little bigger than the size of an eraser

try a different motor

and remember not many professionals tattoo themselves nor should you trust any of your friends to do it for you.

if you must do this or let somebody else do it, buy a ham and practice on it or have them show you they can do it...

*speaking from past experience*
best of luck.

cheers,
yes i know what  im getting myself into,
instead of the eraser, im using a button from an old shirt and it seems to be holding up ok,
im using a top e string from a guitar,
all thats left is getting some india ink/tattoo ink
left the string hanging with a weight on the bottom and it seems to have straightened it out
i'll post pics when im finished :)

Aww leave him alone people, worst case the next project is a home made tattoo removal laser. Now that is a "make sure you know what your doing" sort of project. I mean we could always make a "post pictures of your tattoo" section and all would be well with the world.

this is true, however your adult body may not feel that way... If I got a tat when I was 15 I can 150% garuntee that I would regret it at 27.  Sounds like you arent going to go too crazy with it, but please think long and hard, not only are you growing hair in places you never expected but your brain is changing as well and I can assure you, you will not think the way you do no in 5 years and 5 years after that you wont think like that either.

The tatoo removal reminds me of Sons of Anarchy season 1.... fire or knife? (if you havnt watched that show, do so immediately, one of the best shows I have ever watched)

yeaNO
your every age once so unless you are going to say that for the rest of your life. GO ahead.
but there is nothing special about being 15, or 16, or 17, 18 is an exception because you can drive, but like I said you make us look bad by saying this :censored:.

hey mate dont use that homemade tatto gun that is crazy...... first of all you cant change the needle on it.....
second its made from a pencil ya know.....

if ya want to get into tattooing go to a tattoo shop and ask if they'll take you on as a apprentise....
there are perks to working in a tattoo shop.....
free tattoos
hot chicks comming in all the time, and all tattoo shops have a great atmosphere in them

one of my best mates started tattooing bout five years ago on bacon joints and fake skin... (yes you can buy fake skin....)
and i still wont let him touch me with his gun
but i do let his boss work on my arms.....
just think its there for life

me n a few freind made a little sig up in school bout 10 years ago now. and with needles stolen from design class and indian ink stolen from art and som pain lol
we all ended up with a small sig on us luckilly it was a simple design and i have now had it worked on to look good (by a proffessional)

but basicallly be carefull mate steralise everything and remember not all cover ups will work...
i was lucky with mine... (not that it was a cover up just a re-work lol)

Sigs made by Ken and blazin from the AM Art team cheers guys.....

you can change the needle,
its just a guitar string anyway

anyway me and a mate just ordered a whole kit for £91 with 6 guns and 2 of everything else,
500 sterile needles, inks, tubes etc.

Dude I seriously don't recommend this, even if you buy a kit.
Go do an apprenticeship for a year or two in a tattoo parlour,I've tattooed myself before and the results...let's just call them "abstract".So I did an apprenticeship in a tattoo place and learned how to design and apply tattoos properly. And remember, getting inked is addictive,VERY VERY ADDICTIVE,don't get a tattoo unless you know that you can stop once you get a few.

it's not really addictive,it's way beyond really addictive,it's MEGA FRICKIN ADDICTIVE

there's no point where you realise "hey maybe I've got too many tattoos",theres only one point of realisation and thats "Hey,I've got free space on my arm, better go get it inked up"

but it's all uderstandable,if someone gets a tattoo and they like it then why wouldn't they go get another?

I've got my arms inked up (I'd post pics up but my tattoos are all religiously themed and I don't wanna cause no controversy),shoulders, wrists and another place which I refuse to mention. But I'm almost definitely not getting any more ink,but it was extremely hard to resist and still is..

yeah the only problem is that i want them in places that I could hide them if i needed to, and saying as in i dont wear long sleeves(unless its a jacket) my wrists are exposed. Or say for my job.

yeah my bigger tattoo is on my right arm it starts just above the elbow and goes right up to my neck.... and round onto my back and chest a bit......
its only line work at the moment.
as i cant afford to get it finished till after xmas....

but when i where i t-shirt it just creeps out under the sleeve and at the top out of the neck of it.....

i thought i'd try and keep it hidden when i can say for familly dinners (some of my familly are rather posh and would look down on me for being tattooed)
and for job interviews and stuff like that.....

not that i really need to hide it for work as im a site carpenter so we get away looking like a mess on site as we're all messing  builders lol

i think by the time its finished it'll take up most of my upper right arm should chest and neck....

the style of the tattoo is a tribal.... kind of..... as i said only line work for now.... but when i get it filled in it'll be filled in in negitive so instead of filling the inside of the design black i will be haveing my arm filled in black and faded out into skin around the edges and the  inside of the design will be left skin color.....

should look pretty sick when its all done.... but for now it looks like i've been attacked with a biro.... bloody line work lol
