the origins of acidmods?
« on: December 16, 2009, 12:21:11 PM »
im doing a graduation project on my school on modding, one of the things the teacher has asked from me is how companies like Sony and Microsoft take mods into consideration and use them to better shape future models. what i want to get at is i know acidmods started on the PSN forums, but id like the entire story so i can include that.
It's been a long time

we don't shape future models, we help them figure out how to barricade us from getting in again and messing :censored: up... even if what we do does make the console better.

Its back in the f00 times everyone was obsessed with having beards. Lol.

beardmods also hosts backups for AM and some other crap.

There was a section when i first got global but it wasnt there one day.

Beardmods was started as a spoof of acidmods. the idea was started by some of the older (in age) members of the site as a place to show off their beards and the goofy things we could do with them. The idea was tossed around (mostly as a joke) on a drunken late-night MSN chat after F00 showed off his very full beard and everyone had a good laugh about it. it was then put up as a spoof mirror of AM... If I remember correctly (we had all imbibed quite a bit so the memory is a bit hazy, correct me if I'm wrong Robin...)

As for the beginnings of AM, the short bit Mr. Mendez (that sounds so weird) linked you to has the start correct. AM started on the PSN forums with a mod made by the founding member of the site, CyberPyrot, and his discussions of the mod with Chaos (I believe the thread can still be found buried in the PSN forums, but I could be wrong). The first AM mod was the LED lit PSP-1000 trigger buttons. The Buzz created by the mod created such a demand for information about recreating the mod that CyberPyrot decided to create a forum solely dedicated to the modding of video game consoles. Once the forum was created he invited his friends and cohorts from the PSN forum to join him here. the site was small and had a small member base, but with interesting ideas and modifications to consoles, and a great deal of hard work on the part of the sites administration, some clever cross promoting (with greg from psp-hacks) and some high profile exposure on other PSP news sites, the site became quite popular and well known. With some very well known mods (mainly the 'Doc-Oc' mod by F00 f00), some amazingly skilled modders, and some sponsorship of the site and it's mod-off contests (initially by CAMY) the site become even larger.

I used to be a member of Beardmods to test stuff for Robin occasionally...

I was here in the early days, came March 2007.
IIRC I had posted in that PSU thread before it all started, and ultimately that's what brought me here. xD
Besides the Admins and founders, I think I'm one of the only people who are still here from way back then, besides deda really. I can't believe it's been that long. Haha

I can't see any of those extra boards (feel free to let me, though!... no, seriously).

technically... yes 2007 was 'the early days' the site actually started in 2006... according to Member registration November 14 2006, if you go by the fact that Cyber started the site and is the first registered member...
