Nunchuk question
« on: December 21, 2009, 07:54:51 AM »
Hey I was thinking of making an all in one gun controller for fps on the wii. I was wondering would it be possible to replace the analog stick on the nunchuk with a psp one?

Uhm. Well, the nunchuk uses 2 potentiometers to output 4 axis'. Y+, Y-, X+, X-.
The PSP analog stick outputs Y and X values as well, but in a different format.

It's possible...but you'd more or less need a microcontroller or PIC to interpret the X/Y from the PSP analog stick and then output corrected values to the nunchuk analog stick pins.

Maybe. Or, you could *attempt* to directly wire it by just reversing the schematic for the PS2/GCN/etc analog stick to PSP analog stick that Ben Heck made.
It could work. You'd have to test it.

So in other words, to get something like this to work I would either need a. a PIC chip programmed to convert the data produced by the psp analog nub to the format of the data the wii analog stick produces. or b. have a arduino doing the same thing?

Try directly wiring it first. With the nub cap facing you and the 2 screw holes at the top, the pins are GND, Y, +, X from top to bottom. That should be right.
Look for Ben Heck's analog stick to psp nub schematic and just wire that in reverse.

If this pinout doesn't work, try wiring it based on the schematic the OP posted in this thread:

Mainly this one:

Up would be wired to Y+ on the joystick, down to Y-, etc.
