play dvd error
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:55:20 PM »
I've had this xbox 4 over a year now with no problems, until a week ago none of my games would work on my xbox. I'd put them in the drive and it would say play dvd, I'd take it out and try again same thing, about 4 or 5 tries later it would read the disc so I'd play then like 20 mins later it would cut off back 2 the dashboard and say play dvd again. I've tried clearing the hdd cache and tried cleaning all my disc still no luck. So if any1 can help me plz.

i had a problem like that with a hitachi i had
what i did was open up the drive and wipe the laser and replace the ribbon for the laser
if that doesnt work up the volts on the pot for the laser (DVD)

It sounds to me as if you need a new lazer..... you can find them on ebay.. but if youre not confident riping out the lazer try getting a new drive and swooping the main circuit boards over

yep, agreed. you may be able to clean it or adjust it, but it sounds like your lazer is going out

It's all personal opinion, really (Ps3 vs. 360).
I personally have never had a single problem with any of my 360s, so I don't know what it's like.
I'd still recommend sticking with 360 over ps3, though.
I feel the gaming is a lot better on 360, and the features are awesome.
(Again, this post is all a matter of opinion)

besides it's not like the 360 is alone in it's failure problems, the PS3 has quite a few of it's own (i see just as many YLOD PS3s on ebay as I see RROD 360s), the 360 has just had more time for more of them to show up and be publicized...

I had the same problem about a year ago. Google "potentiometer adjustment" and try that. If you do it right your laser should work fine for at least a few more months.
