CCTV setup help

Hey guys. I'm wanting to set up a 4 or 5 camera CCTV system. I would like it to have he following  features.
- recording
- streaming to the web
- motion sensing so that it only records motion
- colour cameras
- cameras need to switch to night view when the light goes
- infra red floodlights for the nighttime CCTV
- upload recorded footage to a server
- sound on one camera by front door
- a feed going to the tv that allows me to cycle through. 
- and with me been in uk the cameras need to be weather proof


I have a old unused pc P4 3ghz that can be used for this.

Now I have no idea where to start to find what I need and how much it would cost. I would like the system to be as cheep as possible as well.

So has anyone got any idea where to start or any suggestions on what to use.

You Can Stream the video on the web.
The cameras do have infrared (i think you need to special order those)
The software that comes with it probably has the option to record only movement.
Just buy an external hard drive at best buy to save your footage on your computer as the server.

At school i'm working on a network certification called Suite link. its all very similar to this.

im not after off the shelf systems. i want a project to do so want to set it up myself like choose the right sort of camera and the right sort of pci card for the inputs etc

i think i might of found the software - http://www.zoneminder.com/ - it runs on linux and is open source i think

now i need to find a suitable card and cameras

yeh well if i can cost it all up and it isnt to much i will probably go ahead with it - and do a write up with pictures of it at the same time.

also on another note i will probably also look into getting another UPS for it as i have one for my imac which is great and it would mean that if the power got cut it would cary on recording

well thats if i went for ethernet cams but then that would mean an ethernet switch would be needed to for the 6 ethernet cams. i was thinking of using standard cctv cams and getting this pci card to take them

as it give a really good fps per cam so it will be good quality and it leaves me 2 for if i want to expand

as for the cable routing i think what i would likely do for the ease of it is rout the cable up to the roof and into the loft where i might keep the computer as its cool up there and also its secure and keeps the noise out of the house from the fans etc. but i need to think about that.

now ive found the software - chosen the pci card for getting the video - got the computer to run it on - now i just need to find the cameras and the floodlights i think

i dont belive so, one thing that learned in science was that we can not see infared radiation.

ok cool well a 10 meter range is all i need i think for IR light so i will go with the halogen bulb look alike IR bulb from here - http://www.camsecure.co.uk/Camsecure_IR_Lighting.html - as it has a 10m range and is only £15. but i am strugling to find an enclosure for it

i would probably go for 2 of these one for the front by the cars and the other for the rear of the house

So your probably going to be Looking into getting some infrared LED floodlights to help your cameras Eventually.

No.

We see Red through Violet. Thus the bandwidth either side is aptly named "Infra"Red and "Ultra"Violet. Literally meaning below and above, respectively.

btw we have a camera system wer can access from the web and has 4 cams on it they have night vision built in with about 20 meter range pretty sweet

depends... a lot of off the shelf infrared floods that are used in home survelence often have a dim red glow if you look at the light itself, as some of the light falls within the visible spectrum.  it is possible to have a completely invisible flood, but most of the time you will see a dim red glow by looking right at the light itself.

cool - so now that everything is picked i and most of it from the same site i think i will wait till summer when i will have a better idea of my funds and then if feasible will start buying parts (maybe the guy will do a discount) and put it together
