BSOD and wont boot to safe mode.
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:08:39 PM »
this is about the 4th time that ive had to reformat and reinstall windows. ive always had a pirated version of windows. which isnt the best thing to be doing, but you cant beat free.
just all the sudden the bsod poped up. so i restarted in last known good cofig. and i got nothing. then i tried to boot to safe mode and got nothing aswell.. problem is that i could rlly use some stuff i got saved on there.
anyone got any tricks or tips to get this thing up and running?

Post the Blue Screen error here.
Even better if you can provide a clear picture of it so I/we can see everything.

Regardless, you can still retrieve the files off of the hard drive. I'll explain how if we can't fix this BSOD.

If you have another PC, hook up the hard disk via a USB enclosure, and get the files. Desktop or laptop?

1. Get a linux LiveCD or DVD
2. Get a USB flash stick or USB hard disk
3. Pop the CD/DVD into the CD/DVD tray
4. When your computer is booting repeatedly press F2 or F8 in order to get to your BIOS settings screen (also sometimes Esc key works)
5. Set primary boot to CD/DVD drive
6. Boot up to the LiveCD
7. Choose the option that allows u to run the OS off the disk (not install)
8. Once in the OS, connect the USB drive
9. Mount your Windows disk. You can Google on how to do this or follow this
10. Drag and drop files from the mounted HDD to your USB drive.
11. Enjoy.

Boot into a Windows disk and try fixing it using the repair console first. Or, boot into a Linux disk and mount your Windows drive and make sure you've got enough space on your drive. Update your BIOS.

Doesn't matter if it's pirated.........................
Just use any XP disk and try to repair. If it doesn't work, try the other options........

Alright can I have more specs of you computer?, ie processor, motherboard, GFX cards, etc?

Searching the error codes shows a driver acting up.

With more specifics I'll try to narrow it down
