i use 60/40 lead/tin solder... mainly because my solder irons tip contains zink and lets just say i made the mistake once of using silver solder and it was like acid on my tip... so got a new and only use 60/40 and u can get this at just about any local hardware store or radio shack.... i normally get it from this place called fishers but its a small time local hardware store

my tip dosnt look too good either but i dont tin it like im suppose to. but the very tip is silver and clean.  honestly i dont change tips on the soldering iron. if it heats up it still good to me. and i can get tips for liek 1 to 2 bucks at radio shack for my iron. so replacing them isnt a problem for me soo.. yeah

use a bastard file to reshape the tip, and remove buildup.

no but sounds like its not worth it unless u need emergency soldering where theres no power available.  otherwise itll get  pricey after a while

the only butane irons I have ever seen use an open flame to heat the solder, these are mainy used in construction when soldering copper pipes. do not, I repeat donot try to solder anything inside an electronice device with an open flame torch

I wasn't calling you, or implying anything about you. I was mearly replying to the convo as quoted above.  I have never seen a iron as you speak of, but then again, I have never seen lady gaga's penis, but they both probably exist.

i used 60/40 and then i used a little 60/40 flux   i got them both from radio shack i am not sure if they worked by psp still doesn't turn on but i did see an improvement before it didn't charge now it does but i m not sure if that involves the power fuse, well i bought a new power board, for $2.00 i though it could be the power board , so now i am just waiting for delivery. In a addition note how can i be sure i soldered my fuse right
