I think an opensource would be the best option because we are so much who play in many games of xbox360 with the differents types of RF and would be nice can do the same with ours ps3 controllers but is a R&D team decisions

I'd be interested  Many of my friends have PS3s and I've been itching to stick a rapidfire into one of their controllers, but I've never really come across any that I would consider reputable. It would be great if AcidMods made one!

Ok Here are two rapid fire solutions for the ps3. These have no affiliation with acidmods. They were laying around the internet, and I posted them here so they can be available to our members. I have never even tested them. let me know what you think. RnD will continue to work on rapid fire without tactile switches, but due to the complexity of the sony design, amount of different controller types, and lack of resources it is a slow ongoing process.

I'm 99% installed with the 3 mod version here. I'm just thinking before closing my controller, could I have both an R1 and an R2 wired as follows. Instead of 1 wire on pin 7, have 2 going to two seperate tacts, from each leading to their own transistor sharing R common but one on R1 and one on R2.

My 3 Mode Rapid Fire Tutorial!! Hooray!! Wondering where the hex came from though. I've made a little editing to it since this tutorial to align the pins better and cut down on wires.

Enjoy!! Mode 1 is 8 sps, mode 2 is 10.5 cod5 compatible, mode 3 is 20 sps. I might just set up a small diagram with the new hex that cuts down on the wiring and improves pin spacing.

You may want to remove the 2 mode. It's basically usesless except with cod5. The 3 mode works with all cod titles.

You may just wanna clean this up a bit. Make your post with the codes/tuts the first post and get rid of these messages that are correspondence between us. That way, it makes it easier to find the codes. I'll just pm you from now on with any changes.

Seems to work really well.
Can you tell me how I might wire it so I can use the trigger itself and not the rapid button?
Since I can turn it off and on, this would make the most sense.

Thanks,
Mike.

You can't with this code. I can tweak the code to make it R1, but I don't have the knowledge to do so. ExoFire seems to know how, but like to squirrel it away. Seeing as though I haven't sold a single rapid fire kit in almost 6 months and released my hex for free, he still seems to wanna hide the knowledge.

The Xbox controller was a simple potentiometer wiper that could be voltage driven easily enough. If the wiper went one way when you pressed teh trigger, you could force the voltage back to the 'released' state.

The PS3 is not a potentiometer. Every button is pressure sensitive, and has analog voltage. This is not what stops people. The problem is that the entire controller is a matrixed analog controller. It uses the common line to pulse each analog button in sequence to read its variable state. If the PIC tries to force the voltage, it will do so to all the button on that common line. This is why people need to use a transistor to manipulate the buttons. But I am looking into it.

Thanks Hazer. What people are doing, just as a tip, seems to be they are only hooking up the  single wire to the "R common" spot and it seems to only trigger the "R1" button (those who are doing it right). I'm wondering if there's a way to tell "R common" to only allow the pulse through if "R1" is pulled. Like put a hold or something on the pulse until the signal from R1 comes through R common.

Does anyone tried the 3-MODE of this code in COD5 & COD4 ?

I tried it on COD: MW2 and works fine, but I don't own the other two titles.

I'm just asking because I have friends interested in getting a rapid fire mod on their controllers.

I take this as a hobby, as I don't have much time to make fully researches on this things.

I have programmed a PIC 12F683 with the 3-MODE code.

Any reply will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is there any update on this as I have all the components needed to build this but do not want 2 tactile switches.

I'm happy to have a switch to change mode but do not want a seperate button for fire (rapid fire - R1)

I am looking into putting further tactiles in to take over from other buttons at some point but want the rapid fire functioning 1st.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, haven't been on here in a long time.

I programmed the code using "pulses" so I don't know if it will work with lecrack65's wiring. Try it out. If it does, fantastic. The rest of the wiring is stable. My only concern with it is that it'll make every button on the right side "rapid"

Just a heads up, I went out and bought a new ps3 controller on Thursday and it was a controller revision not show in the tutorial. However, I was able to manage to make it work by following the traces and soldering to them. Bottom line is this still works on new controllers.

Yes, I was just letting people know that it still works on new controllers if you ca follow the traces from the buttons to the controller board. Figured it was worth bumping up the thread to do so. Unfortunately the trace for R2 (not sure about R1) had to be accessed from the front of the controller (The side that has the LED's o it) because the via is strategically placed underneath the main IC chip.

Well all this schematic n code for pic worked in first time for me. But i think most ps3 games are now patched for rf. Couldn't make 9,16 n 24 sps work on max payne 3. Gun jams after some time. Lots of thanks for this mod anyway.
