Hey guys! I'm new here and also pretty impressed by what I've seen so far.  I almost hesitate to even try this but I'm going to be entering My wife's stock PS3 in the mod-off. I plan to do a backlit UFC logo in Red and Hopefully put a fader chip in it somewhere if I can get one fast enough. I'm starting today and I'll post pics later this afternoon!!

So....I got all excited and forgot to make a date/spring mod off thingy for my first couple of pics....and I made a miscalculation which required me to rewire my entire days work.....picures to follow-I promise.

Here's a pic of the ps3 I took this morning: all stock and kinda beat up(I picked it up broken for dirt cheap and fixed it)

Wired a MOLEX from the USB to get my 5V because I plan on adding a pulsevu 2


Closeup of the first wiring layout....I figured instead of using a bunch of resistors and 2 LEDs in series I'd just use 3 in series and no resistor.......that was a mistake:the LEDs were way dim.


I remembered to put the sign in this one....properly wired LEDs:

Phase 1 complete! Just waiting on That pulsevu chip now.....In the meantime maybe I'll try and come up with more mods

By the way, I was looking at everybody else's mods last night and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get smoked when it comes time for judging.....there are some pretty sick entries!!

So....I got my pulsevu2 yesterday and I couldn't wait to try it out! I got started putting it in a little after 9 PM here are some pics:


The momentary switch that will(Hopeully) control the modes.

LOL I have the helping hand from radioshack!

since you are drawing power from the USB, is the port no longer functional? did you have to sacrifice one of your usb ports to power the leds?!?

would you know any good 12v points?

Nope. Both USB ports are alive and well. I soldered them internally on the wifi board.
You can get 12v from one of the wires to the BLU-Ray....see the MODDER's new youtube vid. It's very informative. Helping Hands=Best $15 I've ever spent!

Here's the Demo video....got her up and running on Fader and Pulsevu but still no mode switch. Waiting for sickmods.net support to get back to me.

 Still needs to be calibrated but kinda impossible since I cant get the mode switch to work.

I realized I forgot to post this pic from the other day. It shows the SPST switch I added to Switch between Fader(console off) and Pulse VU(Console on) I figured out while trying to get the mode switch to work that this extra switch would be a good idea. It's a lot quicker than cycling through all the modes if you just want a fading effect.


I was talking to somebody this morning about this project and that got me thinking"Hmmmm....paint..."


Here is the final(probably) Faceplate mod  covered in tape and cutting out cross hatches by hand.


All ready for paint.

Can anybody guess the significance of the crosshatches?? Here's a hint-It goes along with the THEME of the project.....I'm going to make you wait to see how badass it looks on the PS3....

Here are the final few pictures and and Video of my UFC PS3. I hope you guys like what you see!!


This is the finished product. All painted up, fired up, and fully functional.


Here is a closeup of the rear of the PS3. Notice there are no external power cords/AV cords. Just AC, Optical Audio(to get killer sound to the reciever) and HDMI.
