Possible Valve Gaming on Linux?

Steam for Mac beta Has Some Interesting Source Code
by, aquatsr

Traditionally, the main argument against getting a Mac was that Windows was better for gaming. With the move to Intel processors well underway and companies like Blizzard becoming more Mac-friendly, that fact is slowly slipping away to myth, especially with Valve moving to incorporate its games onto the Mac as well.

Linux, however, has been left in the dust for ages when it came to mainstream games.

This may change in the future as the source code for the Steam for Mac beta reveals some open source launchers compatible for Linux. Additionally, the Linux blog has found bits and pieces revealing Linux compatibility in Valve's Source engine.

The step towards increasing gaming on Mac bodes well for Linux-based systems as well, as the underlying software architecture is based off of *NIX. It may be a while before any serious gaming is done on a Linux system, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
