Q: can i hook LEDs to a speaker?
A: Yes.

Q: Will it work?
A: Probably not. It depends on the power of the amplifier you use.

Q: How can i hook the LED up to a speaker to make it light up?
A: Use a Transistor to amplify the speaker's current.

If you need more help i can hook you up with a schematic.

actually in the ds light you can solder the led's right onto the speakers and it will work without a problem

BUT having said that i find using a transistor, amp or pulse vu yields slightly better results, especially with several led's

but for 2-4 leds a direct connection should serve you fine if you don't want to use a more intermediate method

i wanted to hook it up to the speakers so that i don't have to open up the bottom half of the ds. so i was wondering if i could use the power from the gba slolt thing to power more led's for an external case?

Uh... I'm pretty sure you have to open up the bottom part to get to the top part. Also, why are you powering leds in an external case with your ds lite? I'm sure you could do it, it just sounds like it would be easy to break, and you'd be better off with an external power source.

Sig by Kenshinffx - Thanks!

Direct contact DOES NOT work for Nintendo Ds Lite.  You are stuck using LM386. I and many other people have tried, it doesn't work. There is a tutorial on how to install the IC to get sound reactive leds.

And to get to the speakers just remove the four screws hidden by the pads on the upper half of the ds, and slide the clear part of the casing away from the DS. You will see the speakers.
