giving up smoking,need ideas
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:21:30 AM »
Well, after 6 years of smoking (started when i was 12,I don't need a lecture) I've decided to bite the bullet for the last time.I've given up before, but it only ever lasted for maximum 2 months.
I need some ideas on things to help me break the addiction and keep it broken.I've already tried locking myself in a room for a week with a few bottles of Jack Daniels...it doesn't work,I've tried learning to pick locks, playing addictive video games, nicotine gum and patches (I ended up chewing 5 or 6 gums at a time while wearing upwards of 3 patches...I only lasted 4 days),e-cigs (just ended up worsening the nicotine dependency because I smoked them constantly).
I need some creative ideas and strategies!Cmon guys!

Any help and/or ideas are appreciated!
Cheers!
Derp.

Save up the money you have to an account you cant acces without having to wait 2-3 days. Savings account will do. Pay the bills & then deposit the rest on that account.

Works for me xD Everytime I lose my job and dont have money for cigs I end up not smoking for 6 months. Like now for example xD

The problem most people have is they quit smoking for the wrong reasons. they quit cause a spouce wants them to, or money, or stained teeth, whatever. these are excuses. and will lead you to failure. you must quit because you want to quit, and for no other reason. you can use these other excuses as a support so when you want to smoke you think about this.

the best thing tat helped me quit after 15 years at 2 packs a day was my wife telling me I couldnt. I sure showed her.

It never goes away, never. you must be strong and stop because you want to. I walk by people smoking and even after two years it smells so good and I would love one so much. after a big meal i can taste that tase when you need a smoke.  Its an adiction just like any other. people with real addictions never recover, they are always recovering cause its an every day battle.

my gandmother quit smoking after smoking 40 years. she tried patched gum everything she found that taking a straw with here and when she felt like she need to smoke bad she would pull out the straw. and hold it and try to take a puff. the prob with smoking is the multiple addictions and habits you have to fight. one is the actions of holding a cig and the taping of the box ect.. as ell as the nicotine itself. So all i can say is if you really want to quit then you will.

I smoke weed occasionally when I need freedom of expression. I'm not an addict yet since I am sober on and off.

People just don't in the first place. Believe it or not, its a huge decision in your life do not try it it adds up in life.

Sunflower seeds, keeps your mouth busy.

Have no shame in being kindly and gentle, but if the time comes in the time of your life to kill, kill and have no regret. In the time of your life, live so that, in that wonderous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it.
