I just tested how this would work. AA batteries don't fit in the place where the rumblers are, even if you desolder the socket for them. So unless you used AAAs then I can't really see how this worked...

you can see in the pic they are clearly AA's. you would need to cut out the supports for the rumble pack. and it should fit nicely. I will verify.

I tried it on a spare case I've got with the supports already cut out. If I'd tried to screw it together it'd have warped/snapped the board. I may have done it differently somehow, I'll have another look.

EDIT: OH! Looks like you've cut out some of the screw supports too. Sorry about that. I'm guessing that gives it just about enough room to squeeze it in.

Still, I can't find where you'd solder it to on the board, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for replying Phantomz0.
You say you soldered them where the springs used to be, so in theory a Play'n'Charge would still work to charge them...
I think I'll do this too, but with one battery so I can keep rumble, and while still using the wireless battery pack.

I was going to only add it for a bit of extra juice to backup the main two batteries, and I'd use a wireless shell, so it'd have the jack.

Good point, I made stupid mistakes when I was thinking that out.
I've got a new plan though. I'm gonna ditch the battery pack and use a wired shell like Phantomz0 has, but I'm still going to try keeping one of the rumbles.
Do you think that it would work if I found a battery/batteries a similar size to an AA with 3v output and used that/those in one side. It would be a lower capacity but I don't mind.

if you can find a similar power supply that will fit into one side of the ontroller shell it will work.

I feel like an ass, there is a play and charge port, and play and charge will work.

see, the shell is a wired controller, but the mobo and sinc plate are from a wireless controller, now if you will wire your battery leeds to the center power points (the four in the center of the controller) you can use the play and charge.

i planned to keep both rumbles by using a 1/2AA battery, its half the size of a normal AA and is 3.6v, so you would only need one. but im not sure if the 3.6v would damage the controller as its designed for 3v.

If I desolder the port that's already there, what would I do with the four empty holes that are left? Where would I solder positive and ground, and would I need to do anything with the other two left over? Thanks

The new batteries I ordered arrived today, but they're not AA, so the only way to charge them would be through the play'n'charge port. So does anybody know where I would solder a battery to so that p'n'c would work?

Ok, I tried this and it looks like the cable doesnt charge batteries unless they're connected to the chip from inside the official microsoft battery. Or at least that's my guess. :dntknw:

I managed to dig out my old rechargeable batt and cracked it open today, but the ENTIRE board was coated in heatsink compound. Unless I pick it off and risk ripping off a component I'm not gonna be able to solder that.
I think I'll just pick up an unofficial batt like yours and use a standard usb to charge it, makes a use for the hole where the wire used to be in any case!
