SSD issues

i have an ssd (wewt!) that i received from a friend who royally screwed it up.  I have formatted the thing about 12 times, but if i boot from it it will try to boot to windows 7.  obviously i cant get rid of the MBR for whatever reason.  anyone have any idea what i can do?  i have used most of the problems on hirams boot cd, but nothing has worked. 

i am trying HD erase atm, if that fails idk what to do.  if you have ANY tips at ALL please let me know.

What OS are you trying to install/boot from?
Boot into a Hiren CD and run the DBAN utility to completely wipe any data from the drive permanently.

If you're installing a Windows OS on it, then install it and if it doesn't boot properly, boot into the Windows disk and run "fixboot" and "fixmbr" from then recovery console.

If it's trying to boot into 7 still, it sounds like you didn't erase the Windows boot partition (It's the only partition on the drive that should be marked as SYSTEM and it'll be ~100MB). If you did, then it wouldn't be able to attempt the boot and you wouldn't get the booting problem.

i have tried to delete it with every tool (cept dban XD) on hiren and it never goes away. delete, re check drive, there it is.

Non fatal error using what? And you can go into one of the HDD tools and there's an option for erasing the MBR.

It kinda sounds like the drive is trash. Are you installing an OS on it? If so, all you need to do is install the OS. It'll automatically write it's own MBR to it. If you're using it for data, then don't even bother with the MBR.

just RMA the drive to the manufacturer. spend the 12$ on shipping and get a new drive lol

i dont have the receipt.

and kicks non fatal error using DBAN.  i tried wiping it by installing windows xp vista 7 and ubuntu 10.04. nothing worked.  i have tried all the tools on hiren's and none of them have worked...

im sure the serial number is all you need when you RMA a drive. I've never needed a reciept in my life. Especially when RMA'ing to the Manufacturer.

Sometimes SSDs scare me. Ive currently got a 2x 60GB SSD RAID0 setup right now. Average lifetime on SSDs is only 2-5 years! All you really need to remember is, DO NOT defrag them. This will shorten the life of your SSDs dramatically.

run a windows install disk at boot and run through install procedure until it comes to the setting up partition setting (before actual install)

Here you should be able to delete/ format all partitions making them into one (assuming you have partitions)
