Am I right in thinking that out of the three terminals on the Y axis only the centre pin carries data and the other two are just grounded?

the center pin is the reporting pin so to speak, but only one of the other pins is grounded, the other is positive supply.

Thanks, any idea which is which? And I guess I'm ok to connect to another power source and ground?

yeah the centre pin is the one that sends signals back to the chip

the bottom pin will be grounded any ground will do

but the top pin is the positive anolog line..... u cant use any positive supply.... it will need to be the 1.5v anolog line...... its easilly traceable.... i've traced it for the left anolog but not the right.... but both anologs and triggers run off the same + trace.... so either link to one of the trigger pins or the left anolog pin or just follow the trace to a nice spot that u can tap into....

heres a pic of the traces for the left anolog they may help..... i just havnt got round to doing the right yet......

you dont need all 10 of the wires for it ... (on a cg pad)
you need 1 for x axis
1 for y axis
1 for the click of the anolog
1 brigdeing the constant 1.5+V
and one brdgeing all the grounds ... heres a pic to show ya what i mean.

thats how i do my left anolog moves.... u can do something very similar for the right....

Thanks for the great post, I'm going through my PCBs seeing what needs to be done to salvage the better ones. This one had a damaged thumbstick which I removed a long time a go when I was just getting into modding when my soldering iron and skills weren't very good.

I'm going to fix this with thumbsticks from one of my dead matrix pads. I've got two matrix pads that just stopped working all of a sudden :dntknw:

So to confirm I can use this for the positive?

Thanks

Cheers, managed to get it soldered to the trace. The Y axis signal was knackered but i managed solder a jumper to a local part of the trace. Cheers for the help.
