Wii DVD question

Hi , i am usually in xbox 360 or ps3 and just learning psps. also now moving on to the wii.

I bought a wii for a couple of bucks not in the best shape.
My question is, whats involved in changing out the dvd drive? Does it have to be flashed? like a 360?
also, what kind of software mods to play other games on the wii are avalable?
