Infrared on 2k

I have been looking for sometime now on how to make my 2k infrared capable. So far the only thing I have found is a post dating back to 2006. Something about a device using sound that plugged into the headphone jack. Sounded squirrelly to me.

Would it be possible to salvage the infrared port from a 1k and use it on a 2k? The softare is still all there.

i highly doubt it only because thats the one thing sony tends to carry over with hardware revisions is the software. i dont think theres anywhere to put an IR port in it. and for the headphone jack one, it takes pulses from sound and converts them into the IR the same way sound reactive LED's work

My apologies for the late reply, been very busy the past couple of days.

Darn. I was hoping there was a way to bring the hardware over, somewhere to solder it in, etc. I don't mind figuring out a way to adapt the housing to such a hard mod, I just didn't know if it was possible.

As far as converting sound pulses into IR, any recommendations?
I'll keep browsing around. Google, forums, etc, but if you know of a particularly effective as well as efficient way to go about adding IR to a 2k, I'd definitely appreciate a point in the right direction!

you can bring the hard ware over use the serial port/remote port next to the audio port use an AVR and program some software get the voltage from the 2.5v on the port and plug the ir sensor emitter to the apropriate place. bam your done its even remove able. you can get information from tyranids psplink and tokyodrifts sio projects. the port uses rs232 protocol. good luck
