help w unknown hard mod. resolved

Someone owed me some money and brought me a  modded Hitachi 79fl 360. Red light error "0102". I want to reflash. Someone please tell me where to start. I have much modding experience but its been a while for any 360's. First i would like to at least identify what has already been done. I will up load pics soon. It looks like someone cut the fan power wire and hooked the fan to the hard drive for some reason. Anyone with suggestions? Also whats the best way to mod a Hitachi ? Before i go scouring the internet can someone just get me pointed in the right direction. Flashing xbox's used to be a hardmod only but im sure all that's changed now. So whats the best way? I guess the subject is a lil off.

Thanks Famas. I got it to boot finally. I unscrewed /rescrewed the x-bracket . booted right up. Now what wheres the homebrew? I have never a modded xbox, I an xbox because it was free/almost. I played COD on it and thats it. What more can I do. Can someone point me where to go to get "homebrew" and what else does this allow. Not talking pirating but like can I play from external drive or from usb flash device?

^ not unless you have a jtagged xbox flashing the dvd drive allows copied games to be played and to get you dvd key

Your going to have to buy a lot of stuff to flash this. Do you want to be able to play newer games? If so I would recommend spoofing it to a BenQ.

Go out and order:

1. A Via chipset I forget the specific model but its online just google this " Via chipset for 360 modding" or ebay "Xbox 360 VIA"

2. A connectivity kit, I have a maximus 360 xtractor pro v1.2 and I haven't had issues with it.

You will also need to download

1. Jungleflasher

2. Ixtreme Firmware

3. Jungleflasher how to flash 360 guide its a PDF it is very helpful if your new to flashing.

As for the fans being connected to the drive I would undo that and buy some new fans.

Ok . Thank you all for your responses. What I do know:
It's flashed, dont know what firmware its on. it does play MW2 backup.
question: How do I know if its jtagged?
What is available for homebrew for the xbox?
How can I back up to harddrive or external drive?
I have an external 320gb usb. Im using it as a media server but that can be changed.
My friend has the pc-xbox sata thing but he's a moron. He was f'n people's xbox's up. I know he did flash a couple xbox's successfully with it. I'm waiting on him to find it.

If you want homebrew you need to jtag the 360.
Jtagging is way more difficult then flashing. Your going to have to make a LPT connector or by a usb one. You'll need a jtaggable 360,  a computer with an LPT port, and good soldering skills.

There's a bunch of tutorials online. Google it.

No offense , but I was asking here because I wanted to go right to the people who know. I hate google. There is always too much crap to sort through. Not to mention I value the opinions of the people here.  I'm not just asking how to do something, I want to know whats the best way, or easiest, or most reliable. etc. I was hoping someone would have a link to some basic tuts and some opinions on hardware etc.
As far how hard something is to do , I'm not worried. If you have seen some of the other things I'm working on this is cake. Like I said I'm new to xbox modding not modding in general. I have great skills w an iron and I know a few things about programming. I'm just out of the loop when it comes to the Box.

Troubleshooting tips and tricks have saved me so much money. That knowledge is priceless.

Also if you're troubleshooting a console and they xbox-experts site does not offer a working solution check to make sure that any mods (if there are any) are not interfering with the console. If there are mods and you have a hunch that is the issue just try to remove it and see if you can do some more troubleshooting and see if there are different results...

0102 error is many possible resulting issues... but its mainly a cold solder joint somewhere... you fixed it when you played around with the x-clamp screws.

8 am this morning, I had 1 xbox that was just used for streaming movies and shows for my kids. 10 am someone stops in and gives me a RLOD Hitachi. Go do some work , come back maybe 2 pm. by 5 xbox is up and running and by 8 I was playing black ops. Granted i would have been done sooner but I had stuff to do. Thanks again AM. this problem is resolved.
