rechargable battery mod help
« on: April 17, 2011, 02:23:24 PM »
Would a 3.6v 1600 mAh PSP battery work in a Xbox 360 controller? i happen to have an extra battery, not circuit, on my desk and need to do something with it. I know i can get a plug and play charge adapter from game stop or amazon to charge it, also. It only has a positive and a negative pole. And also, if its helpful, the controller will either be a matrix or cg, not cg2. Thanks!

Yes and No. It will power the controller, though not as long as the stock PnC pack will, and it's not going to hurt it being a bit higher voltage that it's used too... BUT, you do NOT want to ever charge that type of battery with the 360 controller PnC cable. It's only designed to charge the PnC batteries that are made for it and you could catch the PSP battery on fire or worse using the controller to charge it.

That PSP battery is a Li-Ion, not Ni-Cad like the PnC packs are. The Li-Ion type need to be used with a charger that's made for them. So you can power the controller with it, just don't charge it from the controller and only use a charger that's made for a Li-Ion type battery at that voltage. You're best off just recycling that thing and getting a PnC cable and battery and being done with it.
Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.

I ran NiHM batteries in my PnC kit for a while.  They worked very well until I dropped the controller and the battery pack fell apart.lol

Soldering the batteries together was one of the most painful things I've ever done.
