blu ray drive not working

hey guys i had a friend who brought me over a first gen ps3 with the sd slot and stuff, he had told me the consolde wasn't reading his disk how would i fix that

i have opened it and noticed that he had opened it to try to fix it there was screws missing on the console and on the blu ray drive i have opened the blue ray drive to see if there was any dust on the blu ray and there wasn't any  i noticed that there was quite alot of dust in the fan on the ps3 not sure if that has anything to do with the blu ray drive not working

not modded that i know of and im not sure of the firm ware all i know is its in peices in front of me

You need to take the metal cover off the blue ray drive and then you might be able to load the disk to see if the blu-ray laser is working it will look purple . Its been awhile since I have taken one apart and worked on one but i believe you can tell if the laser is working . If the laser is red showing then the blu-ray has probably burned out, and need to replace the laser. very simple to replace takes time.

"NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY IN TO THE LASER" some if not all could cause eye damage. For those who dont know or ever worked on them.
