Hi,

I have this PSPgo that i bought years ago when it came out first, it has version 5.70.
Before that i had an old modded regular version of the PSP which i sold.

Reason i never used the new one is that i found it very hard to get started with the little f*cker, i read up this week and noticed things got easier;-)

Can i try to softmod it using the stuff around for version 6.30, or do i need to upgrade first, somehow.

Any help is much appreciated.

Paul.

that softmod can be done using that FW hack yes but you would have to upgrade to the firmware needed for the program to run (most soft-modding programs have a FW version fail safe now-a-days)

i would recommend that you update to 6.20 OFW and use either the TN 6.20 Perma Patch OR use the 6.20 Pro Perma Patch

(warning! The PSP Go does not have Pandora ability and so can be bricked by using those programs since they write to the flash of the psp. So i or the makers of the program are in NO WAY responsible if you brick your psp)

So once you update to 6.20 OFW you can start the program called TN 6.20 or 6.20 Pro (depending on which you picked)
both can be found here:(i recommend using the 6.20 Pro version)

TN 6.20 link: http://www.4shared.com/file/gRCawsdD/620_TN_D_Permanent_patch_with_.html

And here:

(BEST) 6.20 Pro link: http://www.4shared.com/file/p6g68SHg/620PRO_B4.html

OFW update can also be found here:

link: http://www.4shared.com/file/e2oEmVQQ/official_620go.html

P.S. do not try to go on the PSN network until you have your Perma Patch installed or you will be forced to upgrade.

So once you have the program started a menu will pop up.

it is HIGHLY recommended that you run the test mode first (if test mode does not work then you will brick your psp if you try and install the CFW) but if the test mode does work then it is most likely safe to proceed with the install. Once the install is complete then your psp should restart.

And there you have it! A perma patched psp go!

if you want to add some plugins it is recommended that you google for the 6.20 compatable plugins.

some good ones are:

- CXMB (full custom theme's)

- AudioBoost (increases the psp volume by 30%)

Wow Twisted, that's what i call a friendly and generous answer. Kudos!

I'll go play some. I've never bricked anything yet, I'm getting old though, mistakes are bound to happen soon;-)

Ok thanks. Here's n00b question number 1: where do i put EBOOT.PBP, can i put it in the root of the memory card?

Hmm, not sure if this is a bad thing, but when i connected my psp to my pc by usb, it started downloading the fw 6.38 immediately. I did not click a thing, nor have i ever been to Sony to register for anything.

I pressed the Back button on the PSP but i think it downloaded it already. Does it mean it will install it too?

Lol! it's not the worst question ive heard...

you have to put the EBOOT file into a folder called UPDATE (make one if you dont have one) and im assuming that your talking about the 6.20 update?

Download procedure
Prepare to save the update data on either system storage or Memory Stick Micro™ (M2)™ media, using one of the following methods:
Connect the PSP® system to the PC using the USB cable
Connect a commercially available Memory Stick USB reader/writer to the PC
Use the Memory Stick slot on a PC
Create a folder for the update data on either system storage or Memory Stick™ media.

Using your PC, create a folder named "PSP". Within the "PSP" folder, create a folder named "GAME". Within the "GAME" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE". (Folder names must be in all uppercase letters).

Download the update data for the PSP-N1000 (PSP®go) series and save it in the "UPDATE" folder created in step 2.

Notice
You must save the downloaded data as noted in these instructions. If you do not save in the correct location and with the filename shown below, the system will not recognize the update data.
Location: Save in the "UPDATE" folder
Filename: Save as filename "EBOOT.PBP"

Here you go that should help.

oK, it's getting interesting...

I tried the system update after:
- i created the psp/games/update folder with the file in it
- put it in the psp

When i pressed the update link, it said it found update version 6.38 on my system: nothing else. I cancelled/pressed back.

How do i remove the version 6.38 file?

ps. Thanks Sammy.

Delete the eboot file in the update folder and replace it with the 6.20 eboot.

ps. Welcome!

It already has that one.

There's only one other eboot file and that is a gamesave of that demo on there.

Edit: never mind, i do not read well (see old age, need glasses). I had to run it from the game section, not system section. I see v6.20 right there.

try erasing the UPDATE folder and then making a new one and adding the 6.20 EBOOT file again

Great, update completed to 6.20.

Tricky though that the 6.38 system upgrade is still available from the system update option.

With an almost 5 year old around all day, that's asking for trouble;-)

Any idea how/where to find it before i continue? It's on the psp internal memory, or maybe it thinks it is (corrupted) but i cannot see it as the download did not complete because i pressed Back (as stated few postst back).

K, last post (for now). I installed the other prgrams as well and tried the not permanent one. It rebooted fine. Is all that is left for me get my game copies, put them in the game folder and play, or is that too easy?

Thanks so far, looking forward to playing some copies again.

Make a folder in the root of the memory and name it ISO and put your copies there.(put your iso and cso files in it.) then go to that same game folder to play them.

look in the internal memory of your psp (make sure Media Go is turned off) and in the game folder there should be a folder called UPDATE if it is there, delete it. Also look in the memory stick and in the gme folder of the memory stick if you find a folder called UPDATE delete it.

that should fix your problem.

P.S. Did you install the perma patch or the regular hack? (Perma patch gives you the recovery menu)

I searched everywhere, no dice.

I installed the entire package but only ran the regular patch and the recovery (seemed to restart the psp in modded mode). I did not run the permapatch yet, i will when i am familair with things and everything is cleaned up like i want to,like getting rid ofthe upgrade option.

By the way, this mod is damn easy compaired to the older psp. One of the reasons i sold that was because i got tired of starting every game through that half baked doslike window. Even softmodding my Wii (which is also hardmodded) was way more difficult. Gotta love the usbloader there though, it's just lovely. They should have something like that off factory.

One other thing, is there a way to exit a game by pressing some buttons,

To exit the game the only way is to press the Home key or PS button and selecting yes on the screen that pops up.

Also what do you mean a doslike window? ive only had a modded psp for a year now and am not too familiar with the older CFW's.

If you could tell me in what folder i have to put the unzipped files, i'd be thankful ;-)

About the doslike stuff. I really tried my best to find some image to show you what i mean, but it seems modding the PSP has come along way, fast.

All i see if people talking about a pandora battery and a magic memory stick. Never heard of that before. I had to use an original UMD game to start the mod and then enter several settings each time you wanted to load a game. Like processor speed etc..;-)

Told ya, i'm old ;-) Checked your age in your profile, I'm 20 years older, haha.

I modded my first xbox 8 or so years ago as well. Even though i am really not that handy, i think it is just fun to do, i almost never play games, but when i do, i like to have a good selection of what i want to play, at that moment. Not what i have to play.

If my consoles/handhelds had coinslots and great online collections, like Arcades, i'd never mod anything;-)

lol! and i never realized it was so ghetto before i thought they just used a demo of a game for an exploit like they did before they found the psp and ps3 key (lets them sign  programs to run without a hack)

and you pout the unzipped files into these files: (btw the internal memory is called ef0 on a psp go)

For audioboost:

ef0:/seplugins (then just open the txt file called vsh and add the line of txt ef0:/seplugins/audiioboost.prx 1 and save)

For CXMB:

ef0:/ (just out the CXMB folder onto the root of the memory stick)

then open the vsh txt file again and addthe second line like this (ef0:/CXMB/CXMB.prx 1)

so with both typed in it should look like this:

ef0:/seplugins/audioboost.prx 1
ef0:/CXMB/CXMB.prx 1

and then save the file and unplug your USB and then turn off your psp completly (hold power switch for 5 seconds0 then turn it back on and reactivate the hack.

once youve reactivated the hack then you have audioboost and cxmb enabled!

to use the theme file plug your USB into your psp and go to psp/theme and place the CTF file there.
then unplug your psp and in the psp's menu go to settings,  then theme settings and select the Clear XMB theme. and your psp's screen will go black and then it will restart with the theme applied.

Ok.

However, the other two folders (cxmb (what does this do anyway, lol)) and seplugins are on my m2 card, are these still valid then?
ef0:/seplugins/audioboost.prx 1
ef0:/CXMB/CXMB.prx 1

ps. That update to 6.38 is still there ;-( How can you see what's on the flashmemory (hidden files maybe?).

I already deleted the mediago folders on both console and m2.
