PSP 1000 LED Trigger Mod (Need Help)
« on: June 30, 2011, 01:17:58 AM »
I've been looking to do a simple LED trigger mod. Nothing fancy, not sound reactive or flashing or anything. (Although if someone could help with hold switch activated I'd do that) I have seen guides about how to do it but I need some help understanding them. Can someone just give me exactly what model LED's and what exact resistor or anything else.

Thanks

^10 k ohm resistor (not really needed)

For the hold switch...

It's late and I don't feel like making a diagram, but on the powerboard there is an area which gives off 3.3v. you just scrape the insulation to reveal the copper on the board.  there is a tutorial for this.

when you flip the board over, you can see the legs of the switch.  the legs have a trace that leads to somewhere else.. for the hold leg you cut that trace, removing connection from wherever the trace led to.  this removes the software "hold" function but the leg is still there.

you solder the negative of both of your leds to the switch leg, and the positive to the powerboard.  if you want to prolong the life of your leds, throw in a resistor on positive or negative, it steps down the voltage a little bit ( I think haha).

no need to its in the tut section

basically white is ground Aka "negative" and red is positive. solder everything like this...
                                                          wire-led for right trigger
   positive point-resistor neo said<                                          >ground point
                                                          wire-led for left trigger

simples oh, remember to cut the trace and that after this mod your hold switch will not preform its normal action

In the interest of time and money, what's the difference between the 0603 140mcd LEDs and others like 0805 170mcd? Would it make a difference if I used those? (Sorry for my lack of knowledge in wiring and lights) :)

Thanks

0805 LED is a bit bigger in size than the 0603 LED  so if your soldering skills are good then you should use 0603 LEDs or else go for 0805.
Both of them will fit inside your triggers.
btw May I suggest you do the sound reactive mod instead. It's much easier than hold activated and the solder points on the speakers are larger too
