New (to me) Micro Analog Joystick
« on: June 18, 2008, 03:11:41 PM »
I just found these and posted a link in another thread.  Here are a few pics.  It isn't as smooth as the Wii joystick that I've had on there after the monsterous PS2, but I can now fit the PSP in my pocket.  Just need to make a nub...

Before with PS2 analog:

With the new micro:

A little side by side:

The micro is the analog and the PSP analog is the d-pad.  I have 4 micro switches in the PSP analog so that a push up is the up on the d-pad and so fourth.  I really like the positioning of the analog stick in the d-pad area.  If my skills get better, I am thinking touch interface around the micro joystick for the d-pad...

Wow, I'm more concerned about that little analog thumb pad you have under the directional buttons, looks like its indented in the center, where did you get that?

The metal nub and the plastic ring were made on my mini lathe.  I am actually making another metal nub for another board member, I just need a bit more practice to make them perfect.

If you are inquiring about my PSP nub and how I converted it to digital, I will disassemble it to show my switches internal of the PSP nub.  If you wanted to know in general on how to convert an analog signal from any source (the nub or analog joystick in general, I can draw something up using a quad comparator or even a quad opamp.

I'll be back with some pics...

Here are my switches inside the NUB housing using the original NUB stick.  The grey stuff is JB weld and the NUB isn't able to be returned to norm.  At the bottom is the part number, but I removed all mine from a motorolla cell phone.  Also, my RGB LED project which will be done soon and maybe available for people to test them.  Thanks for looking!

i know this is a dead thread but you don't even know how much that little stick is going to my gaming so much easier. Been looking for ones like that since lost the ability to operate the 360 & ps2 sticks. Thanks so much 00G and j.s2ghetto!
