flashed 360 wont take new update to play retail mw3

I flashed this drive a while ago. The 360 has been given to his kid now. He bought his son retail mw3. It says needs update to play. Try to update and it errors on install. The look on the poor kids face when he couldnt play his new game really sucked. He doesnt care if its modded anymore. He just wants it to play new games. The box is an ol one. No hdmi. Dont remember which drive, check that later. Any help please. Might as well consider me a noob when it comes to current 360 info, I have not worked on one in a while. Can some one maybe answer a couple questions?
1 Can a jtagged box play online?
2 Can jtags play latest games?
3 What are the requirements for jtag now?
4 Any dual boot options?
My reasoning for asking about jtags is we received our progskeet flashing device and I now can do some crazy stuff like dual booting with it. But it requires an add on for dual boot option. But if he cant play newer games then whats the point. Plus w all of the stuff Ive collected for the ps3 emulators , I have a lot of options for retro gaming systems. 2 Can jtags play latest games? = i'm pretty sure that you can

3 What are the requirements for jtag now? = you can still do the original jtag hack to kernals 7371 or below but if the kernel is higher you can do the reset glicth

4 Any dual boot options? = you can use the cygnos360 to dual boot. run the hacked nand and the original nand.

Bottom line is that Udate you got was M$ putting an end to current Jtag methods.

I don't think it would be a brick, just can't JTAG anymore after the update.  Should still work as a regular xbox after the update. As far as the error on install, that sounds like it could be a problem with the drive being flashed to non-factory firmware, then the dash trying to update the firmware.  I think if you still have the drive key you can flash original firmware back on and make it work. Sound right to anyone else?

you can try as long as it has not been banned, which it probably has.

True, but even if it is flagged or banned, you could download the update to a USB stick and update that way.

Guys this box just had a flashed drive... no jtag (yet). It has been updated past 7371. I dont know if its baned. How can I update this box so this kid can play mw3? Ill worry about jtagging a different box.

flash the drive with its original fw. try to redo the update. no more back ups...

If you update it to play MW3 it probably wont be jtagable anymore. not positive but possible.

No noob question, due to the fact that we are always flashing the drives with updated firmwares, so instead of loading it with the Lt firmware just use the OFW and make sure the keys are matched when flashing the drive. its been a long time since i have done it, but i beleive you have to save the file also when you do this, just as you would when you flash it with CFW. 

what dvd drive is the drive your flashing , can help you along as you go. and tell you what you need for flashing,
Just a heads up Hitachi drives ... are the worst... but can be done.

Thanks man. Im going to check w him to see if he wants a jtag,  cause i have 320hdd i could sell to him to go with it. I wont bother flashing if i can jtag it. Im going to plug it back in check dash... Then check drive for type. Thanks rodent ill let yuo know the plan. I have not flashed a drive since before cod mw2 came out. I have a via sata board in my pc.
Its way past 7371 and its a samsung.
