... How rare is it?

The PSP 1000's series is anything but rare.

The last digit usually has something to do with the region the PSP is sold in. There is no difference between PSP 1003 and 1006. Everyone just says, 1000, 2000, etc because they're all the same.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't believe the last digit has anything to do with region, I thought is was the revisions, I have about 5 phats and they are evenly distributed between 1001-1004. I don't think I have ever seen a 1006, however it rings a bell that a 1006 exsists.

They are basically all the same, apart from some minor differences in the motherboards and the wifi boards are completely different. So there is little reason to buy a 1006 over any other 1000.

Wow I had no idea, god knows how I ended up with Eu, Us and UK psp's and only 1 from NZ.
Also really weird, why on earth would the motherboard design and the daughter-board differ between regions.

Mario May I ask how you obtained your 1006?

Edit:
Hang on a second, I am getting confused, I have been out of the psp scene for too long and forgotten things. My mistake the motherboard versions TA-XXX have no relation to the psp code, I was getting the two codes mixed up.
