6xxx xbox 360 but rrod

ok was gona ask rodent but was not on.

ok i got a old xbox with 6xxx all i could see was the 6 before the error came up and shutoff i tried the x clamp and same 3 lights is there away to fix this as i would love to get this jtag'ed (with out re flowing)

i was hoping it would not come to that as i x clamped it before and it worked then played up so i left it now i was thinking of jtagging i tried it and its still playing up.

i already tried the reset sync fix thats why it worked then shut off sorry i did not mention that on first post.

when you turn it on, it goes rrod?

use the thread I posted to retrieve the secondary code from the xbox by counting the lights.  It will take two seconds, then you will know its the same problem or something else.

but if you did the xclamp, you can try to overheat it and re tighten the bolts. otherwise have it reflowed.

when it was on it was all ok when to see the ver of dash and it came up a error then shut off like it over heated like a pc. but just about seen the 6XXX now all it will do it come up 3 lights it had a xclamp fix before the last problem then i put it away for moving house the clamp is just right ( not tight or loose ) i would take a pic but my bro is trying the brick on his xbox and will not be back till next week

edit: matt it had rrod before so i did a xclamp and it was fixed then before i moved house it had 2 lights so i put it away and wanted to jtag one yesterday after pming rodent and tested my xboxs today and found this to be working again (sort time) and got to the sys info and it shut down after a error screen. now it just gave 3 lights like the rrod and not 2 lights.

Here is what it sounds like to me , The heat synce might be pressed up against the resistor.

Meaning that the gpu heat sync when tighted down shorts out against the resistor and causes it to turn on then off again being that its not recieving the right voltage to allow it to power up I have had this issue before.

If it turned on and the fan speeds kicked up really fast then shut off. that means its overheated due to the fact the gpu heat synce isnt properly sitting on the GPU... Instantly over heat due to the heat sensor is on the gpu and once it gets hot it shuts down. 

Take a Pic I am sure we can get this resolved , With out hurting it or maybe not even have to reflow it.

If it comes down to needed a reflow I will teach you how to do it step by step with out needing anything to do this simple little reflow to get it back so you can make it useful and so that you can possible jtag it.

EDIT: make sure you have the X-Clamp repair right

Bolted thru the case 3 metal flat washers 1 Nylon washer then the mother board then the 1 nylon washer 1 metal washer then the heat synce draw them down evenly, turn it on if it will boot up let it get warmed up then tighted the screws again

thx rodent the think it i played it for a few days before it went to the 2 lights before moving after the xclamp so it cannot be the heat sink this in option one.the fans come on and sounded right for a old console so don't think its over heating but not sure till i came power it up again when i get my power block again or unless my dad finds my spare down his house. i will open it laters when kids at school and have a poke in it as i would really love to get it jtag'ed as i don't see one giving me one to jtag from friends or family

edit: rodent yeah its on right i did my other one about 1year ago and sold it to my moms bf and still works so im sure its on right but it could be the cooler paste i put on as im sure the mx-2 was fake

That could possible be the issue right there the cheap thermal paste .. we will find out when you get it apart make sure you clean it up really good make sure its not on the end of the GPU or the CPU.. make sure its clean around all the components on the GPU and CPU.

Sounds to me we found the problem and I am hoping that is all that is wrong with it. Just the wrong type of thremal compond ,
