A complete PS3 rebuild? Not seen many made before. It's a good idea, but you need to explain more about your idea and how your're looking to do it. I only say this as i'm interested seeing this completed. Looking forward to the next update.

Haha, I'm pretty sure he went by the Modder on YouTube. He's actually the way that I found this site, and i agree, the PS Logo was pretty cool.

anyways this is the picture of the parts that I have so far. Ill be stopping by the hardware store tomorrow to pick of some bolts as it is all a custom job.

As you can probably tell, Yes, it will be water cooled!

There aren't any tutorials or instructions on how to do this but by many days of searching I finally found a Water block that will fit. I'm hoping that this will be a fun project and that it will all come together. Pretty exited to get started.

(any advise is always appreciated)

alright, Ive been pretty busy with school this past week but found a little time to start cutting the plexiglass with our laser cutter.

This is the front panel of the case which will hold three 120mm fans

and a picture of a drawling I made for the rear panel which will hold the radiator.

I'm debating on what to put on the actual back of the case (behind the motherboard). A possibility is to etch a picture of a character from a game, probably Killzone.

This is the stencil  that i have in mind, it will be lit up from the bottom and top to give it a glow. another idea would be to etch flames into it but I cant decide.

That is only because it is sitting on a surface in that picture. The surface behind is reflecting the light. Once it is upright, only the etched part and the very edges will light up.

An update on what Ive been working on for the past week.

Ive finally finished the res from plexi, its a bit messy but hey, its my first time and it should look good with the water running through it.

I also did a little modification to the front and side panel. the front will hold the switches and USB slots, along with the fan controls but I haven't drilled them yet as I'm still waiting on it to come in (love and hate relationship with eBay). The side panel now has PLAYSTATION etched in the bottom, which also has a picture etch above it which just isn't very visible in the image, but i will upload a better image later. The black on the front and side of the plexi is just spray paint, yea its just a little junkyard-ish but I'm happy with the result.

The last project that I began was the modification to the controller. I'm starting by changing the player LED's to blue and white. My original Idea was for it to be blue and green but the SMD's that I received were more of a circuit board green then a bright green green, if you know what I mean. (again, love hate relationship with eBay. HA)

Well that's all for now. next will be to start mounting the motherboard onto the rear panel. I'm trying to find standoffs that are long enough to allow room for the power pins that come out of the motherboard without sacrificing too much room for the tubing.

By the way thanks for the advice on the ram heatsinks, I wouldn't have though of that

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

(and the etching is done with a laser cutter, I will post a somewhat un-eventful video of it in action), once my iPod decides to let me play the video outside of Itunes.

this is a different controller then I previously thought i would use so these are also pictures showing that it is stock

A good excuse to buy some more tips!

This is a quick update with the progress on the ps3 to ATX power supply conversion

just a video of it working, all connections are temporary right now

currently running off of a 300w psu but have bought a 460w from newegg which should be here in a few days, just to give adequate power to the PlayStation and the pump.

My original idea for the controller was to light it up by drilling holes in it and using 3mm led's, but I also wanted it to look close to stock  on the outside. this brought me to the idea of taking advantage of the semi transparent case on the Sixaxis controller. I've used 3mm leds before to try and light up the interior of the case but it always looks awful when I do it, so this time I decided to use some smds and mount them directly against the inside. This part was probably the hardest to do out of the whole project, being that i really have no experience with smds. Using some copper tape I soldered the smds upside-down on the inside of the case. After about two hours of half warping the first row it finally came together. I ordered a switch for them but even without it the battery life shouldn't be knocked down to drastically as they only take about .03A.

Yes i know the solder job looks horrible, but hey, give me a break its my first time soldering smds without a board such as the status lights

I also got this momentary switch that will hopefully power on the unit itself but I haven't found a way to convert the ps3 from touch sensitive

Thanks Turk, it will be a rush to get this done in time.
today i was trying to finish up this controller so I can focus more on the main case, but I am running into idea problems on how to finish it. There will not be any rapid fire or anything special, im just going simply for a cool look.

After the handle leds, i was thinking about some around the d-pad, and paint the buttons white. but while attempting it with smds, as regulare leds just shine right through the case and not on the dpad as I want. I dont think they turned out that great. I cant decide whether to finish it or rip them out and keep it simple.

Best to sleep on it

sorry for no modoff number, i compleatly forgot, and will upload newer pics with it in

bigger then usual update, since their doesnt seem to be much interest, this will show that I do plan on finishing....

Got a sheet of aluminum that will seperate the top from the bottom

Bottom: psu, pump, switches
Top: radiator, motherboard
holes have been drilled for the tubing to fit through

I dont think I have posted pictures of the pump and radiator that I got. They are second hand but still work (trying to save some money)

also the fan controller came in so I finally drilled teh holes for that.
At the rear where the psu vents out, have been modified with my dremmel (meaning I cut it all out so it looks more like a square hole) since I designed it for a different Power supply then Im using, which im now remembering I didnt take a picture of.

Pictures will show how the sheet will by installed. I think ill just lay it in and not glue it.

The main side panel will be mounted on the side with magnets taht I will pick up tomorrow, along with some gromets for the holes in the aluminum

so here they are:

Fan controller was made for a pci slot, but with alittle bending it works out.

It looks scratched but its just dirty, I think..

Thanks, that was the main reason I chose to do this.

Alot has been worked on in the past 24 hours, its been a real rush, but things are coming together

The metal separating the bottom from the top has been painted.

The  main wiring is done, which mainly consisted of lengthening the wires. Not everythig is where I want it to be due to the ribbon cables, but im working around it.

Looking around I found some leftover 8guage cable from an amp install that I used for the main power, looks good and should carry the nessesary current.

Waterblocks have also been installed, and motherboard mounted into the case.

An issue that i have yet to figure out while testing is powering the unit on. I soldered a cable to the touch sensor to relocate it, but it most definately is not working.
the system powers on by itself and then acts like the button is being held, when nothing is touching it. When I do manage to power it up, it will turn off within seconds. Im more then sure it is not an issue with the system itself, but it may be some sort of interference, maby the wire is acting like an antenna or something. Ill try a sheilded cable next and see if it changes anything. If not then Ill probably be turning it on by reaching into the case

Ill update later as things get done. Been working non stop .

your problem may be with the 3.3v. From what I could tell when doing mine, the 3.3v is just for the motherboard the tell the original psu to turn on. being that you turn the new power supply on manually through a switch (if that is what you are doing) I left it out and didnt hook it up to anything. although the model I used is a 40gb version, it may be different on yours. A picture of how you wired it may help me to give you alittle more advice.
