Kinect Sensor for Windows

[smg id=2711]
As promised, Microsoft's Kinect for Windows has launched today, bundling together a Kinect unit and a commercial license for the hardware. Microsoft is heavily pitching the bundle squarely toward industries outside video games, suggesting that Kinect should move "beyond the living room into other industries such as education, manufacturing, healthcare, and retail."

As part of this new push, Microsoft is encouraging businesses to take part in the Kinect Accelerator program, which offers the chance for startups to receive funding for innovative Kinect projects.

The Kinect for Windows package retails for $249. The hardware features "advanced speech and audio capabilities" as well as "improved skeletal tracking that enables control over which user is being tracked by the sensor." The unit also features "near mode" which recognizes objects "as close as 40 centimeters in front of the sensor."

Some people not that smart.. and I am sure if you had a kinect  wouldnt you try it first ? before spending $250 for it? or wouldnt you buy a Kinect sensor for $149 for a xbox first? and try that?

Yeah all they did was package stuff that hackers were giving away.
Funny part is they wanted hackers to dev on it. They released everything on it. I think it was just so they did not have to do the work.

EDIT: found free drivers and dev sdk for kinnect

been using the cl drivers for my PS3 eye for several months now;

have found little to no use for them other than as web-cam drivers with some decent motion tracking properties

if I were to need a security system, this cam  and driver kit would be the bomb

wish I could find a game to use it with or some other application

the cool part was my box of web cam's were rendered useless by the Win7 upgrade, but my PS3 eye works!
