PSP GO JEWEL MOD TUTE

PSP GO JEWEL MOD TUTORIAL

NEEDED:
PSP GO
JEWEL: anything will do as long as its thin enough.
Trim ring for either 1000/2000 or 3000. depending on the jewel you want to install. 3000 you dont get as much coverage of your cuts so you must be very accurate.
Dremel w carving bit. I use this :
[smg id=2749]
Glue : hot would be best but superglue will work. Might want both. Double sided tape can be used to make a non permanent jewel.
some tape: I use painters tape, leaves no residue.
1 piece of sandpaper : 200 grit is good.
A marker. alcohol/cotton ball for marker removal.
A small philips and a pick to take the psp go apart.

Remember you only need to go as far as removing the back plate.
Before you start compare your trim ring with your jewel.
The first step once you remove the back plate from the PSP GO is to Lay out your jewel and measure the distance from the right arch to the right side of the jewel. You want to have equal distance on each side. Layout your trim ring also to make sure you are aligning properly. You can use the PSP logo and the SONY logo's as guides.
Next Trace the jewel with a marker:
[smg id=2750]
Once traced check your trim ring for fit to make sure you don't see the marker.
If the trim ring covers your marker proceed .

Next carefully cut out your ring. Remember you are keeping the outside so keep your cuts on the inside a lil. Keep a lil of the marker showing when removing, this way you are sure to not cut to much.
[smg id=2752]
Dont worry if its not pretty on the first pass, just don't remove to much.
Now take your dremel and gently remove any more material that is left behind.

[smg id=2753]
[smg id=2754]
Now take out your sand paper and fold it over three times, like an envelope. Then take that and bend it over your fingers and use this to smooth out your circle.
[smg id=2755]
Doesn't have to be perfect, just remove sharp edges and burrs.
[smg id=2756]
Now take your trim ring and lay it on and check for fit again.
[smg id=2757]
Flip it over check other side.
[smg id=2758]
Now place your jewel in and check for fit.
[smg id=2759]
[smg id=2760]
If your happy with the fit, You can continue. If not keep reshaping till it fits.
Now take you jewel and center it on your trim ring. If you have any marker left on there you can remove w rubbing alcohol now.
If you ordered a Jewel from me, the shinny hologram side goes on the trim ring side and the image goes on the inside. Be sure to align your image so its seen the right way.
Tape it into place to hold it.
[smg id=2761]
Tack in place with some glue. Either with super glue or hot glue. If Hot glue is used be careful not to put to much on , you don't want to build up your thickness any further than the jewel.
Now check for fit into the PSP again.

[smg id=2763]
Tape the jewel in place.
[smg id=2764]
Apply glue to the inside. If you are installing leds on the side profile be sure to do this first.
[smg id=2765]
Let sit. Then remove tape . and inspect your work.
reassemble the PSP and enjoy.

[smg id=2672]
[smg id=2766]

My psp is not glued down or double sided taped. I have more planned here but wanted to make the tute for you guys. The trim ring I used was for mock up and is not a finish piece.
Sound reactive back light led tute coming next.

How that , lil better? It so hard to get a good pic of the back lit image. Leds mess with the pics. The hologram stuff makes it hard to take pics also. They look amazing in person, but pics just don't do it justice.
