Question about buying pics
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:48:22 PM »
So the idea of pic programming has peaked my interest since stumbling upon this site...  So I ordered several different pics to work along with the Gooligum tutorials.
However, being quite the newb with IC's I mistakenly ordered surface mount chips instead of through hole chips needed for my programmer.

I'm sure it said somewhere in the description that they were surface mount by means of a 'code'  I just didn't understand.
So my question is this..   Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for to make sure the next ones I buy are the correct chips. ie...   I/SN, I/MF, I/P
I didn't really know where the best place to buy them from was.. So I just got them from microchipdirect and there where like 10 versions of the same chip, so I just guessed.   Apparently I guessed wrong.

Thanks in advance.  Any help would be appreciated.

microchip direct is a good place, but u can find them anywhere. the shipping is horrid coming from Thailand. You can get free samples from microchip direct also.
