ps3 dual boot project ideas
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:25:27 PM »
ok so i have a e3 flasher etc i have all the stuff needed to dual boot but involves swapping hard drives etc
now ive yet to really into details with it
but are the files that the ps3 needs to function on the hard drives/motherboard or on both?
if on board why cant we solder another nor chip to it? and make a switch to go back and forth
e3 flasher involves cramming there product into the hdd bay
which i really dont like think theres enough room to cram both hdd into it somehow?
also i can get a progskeet to downgrade then worry about the dual boot after
any ideas comments are welcome im sure with the help of some of the members im sure we can figure something out
ps im sure i can find another down gradable ps3 slim thats beat to crap so i snag the nor chip

I have put much thought into this.
What I have come up with so far is soldering esata cables to the esata pins inside the e3 hdd thing. then connecting the 2 esata cables to internal hdd adapters. The ones that come with the e3 and the other one I have both have a switch to turn them on and off. Well the e3 has a switch that changes between cfw and ofw. use this switch to turn on/off the right hdd. I have a fatty with nor. Yes there was a fat with nor chip. I might try this on that one.
The progskeet is a better option for dual boot internal because of its size. But the wiring is more complicated.

Edit: could we just solder sata connections directly to those pins and eliminate the adapter and just use a switch to turn on/off the power to the drive?

not sure guess what we need to know what files go where based on videos and tuts ive seen
all the users did was swap hard drives from an external e sata or sata dock station
example hard drives would be labeled cfw 3.55 and the other ofw whatever
but seriously doubt it would be that easy because if that was the case i could just downgraded back to 3.55 and swap out the hard drive in the original hdd bay to either one
i just seriously would like to get it internal if possible no matter on what i had to solder install etc
yes ive seen the install diagram for the progskeet def doable
but as stated if i could have it all internal and just swap out hard dribes using the original hdd bay it would be no biggie since removing the hdd on both slim and phat is easy

its not quite that easy.
you need the ofw.bat on the micro sd for booting ofw. and the cfw.dat on the micro sd for booting cfw. they need to be flashed to the ps3 every time you swap. this takes only couple seconds.
Not sure if they can be on the same card at the same time. but those are the files needed.

edit: search fast dual boot. no need for flashing its true dual boot not half dual. requires small mobo alteration fats its resistor removal , slims its trace cut.
slims fast dual boot is easy. fats lil tougher, going to make a tute for fats.

Side note looked at my current cfw'd PS3 and it is also a cechl model. w nor. Means I could have 2 dual boots.
