Wireless in wired shell
« on: August 02, 2012, 06:11:16 PM »
Hello all, im rather new here (ive lurked for years but never needed to post)

I saw a while back on xbox-scene someone named oO Phantom Oo had put a wireless controller inside a wired shell. i thought that looked pretty slick, so i did the same thing.. and it looks great.

ive got a rechargable UltraFire lc 16340 battery inside it with a 3.3 voltage regulator to keep at 3.3 rather then 3.7.
but i have two questions:

one (and most importantly) how to i charge the battery? i know i can trickle charge it with an old phone charger, but how would i know when to stop it?

and secondly, i replaced the leds with red, and piggybacked blue for my t0pfire chip, but the blue ones seem to be getting too much voltage, the blue is constantly lit up very dim, and when its on it is perfect brightness. how should i measure resistance for the blue leds? should i just start testing different ohms (higher than the ones that are there of course) or is there a better way.. thanks for your help:) i can post pictures if you want.

When i did this, i made a hole for the charger port at the top, and i took apart an old REchargeable battery pack i have, and desoldered the batteries from it and added my battery on, seems to work fine, other than that you would have to add some other charging port connected to the batterry and im not sure how to do any of that...

I wonder who that Phantom guy is? sounds like a cool guy  lol

It depends what charger you use, most should stop charging when its at full voltage, to be safe you could use this

You can see another one i did here https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,41116.msg311631.html#msg311631

hmm. so if i used my phone carger that puts out 3.7 volts to the battery directly, i should be good?

make sure your charger is meant for charging li-ion batterys and test if your charger stops charging it when the battery is full (4.2v)

ok so i have another question. and i figured id ask here rather then posting a new thread:

ive got burn me up installed and instead of using one of the p3 or p4 leds i thought id light up the dome and use that as the light.

so now ive got two red leds inside the dome, which light up fine with no resistor directly from the battery/octocoupler(i know thats bad but i was testing) but when i throw it on bmu's led leg, no resistor its not bright enough and looks lame with my blue leds because there super bright and the middle isnt matching... any way to get my dome brighter from bmu?

I want to try a mod like this, but don't know much about circuitry. How do you know which batteries work the best? Longest lasting? Where do you connect it on the controller's board? I would be totally fine with a protruding AC plug from the controller, myself... No need to worry about the wiring up to a play n charge kit or whatever...

I would end up replacing the rumble motors place with the batteries, since I don't like those as it is; made to immerse players but they just annoy me, and are just another drain on battery life in the end.

Do you think it would be possible to make a wired controller wireless with simple modifications? That would be an interesting endeavor... Would probably simplify the process, too.

How could you go about making it wireless?

honestly, short of putting the wireless mobo in there, which is what you are trying to avoid, not much

you could maybe make a dongle that you plug into your xbox and make a transmitter and install it in the controller, but that would be 20x more work and 20x more complicated than squeezing a wireless mobo in there

also, you couldnt use double a batteries because of the difference in voltage(I believe it is 5v instead of 3ish v

What would be stopping you from using some type of wireless transmitter that works with the console's receiver? Also for batteries I wouldn't be using normal batteries anyway... Some rechargeable Li-ions or something.

why not use just a wireless controller in the first place? all you need to do is remove the battery springs on a wireless controller and it fits into the wired shell.

lol madman your crackin me up. just grab a wireless. there is no reason to try to make some sort of transmitter when we have wireless controllers. Why reinvent the wheel right? lmao anyway, its just like a regular wireless controller just rip out the springs, buy some rechargeables, (i only use one at a time cause its 3.7 v i just switch between them with a small flush switch on the bottom. just you have to change resistor values for things like flex and t0pfire. not really a big deal. but the recharging is a lil weird. i built my own cable. i just used cat5 wire but pulled all but brown and brownwhite and put usb to +5 and gnd on one side and a a/v cable on the other side and used that heat rap stuff on the sides so it doesnt look like trash. but idealy i want to do what Phantom0 did on his and put a small switch. and use the cnp kit charger. i just dont have one right now. lol. im doing another one soon with the spectrum code in it so no buttons on the bottom, just sync lol.

Phantom: where did you get that button by the way? its sick and small enough and i like and want it.
