Need help with programming my PIC12F683... (For RF modding)
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:01:33 PM »
I'm very new to this and have absolutely no idea what I am doing.

I bought this programmer off of eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIC-USB-Automatic-Programming-Develop-Microcontroller-Programmer-K150-ICSP-Cable-/280908093030?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41676d5666#ht_3254wt_1271

I've tried using WinPIC800, and WinPic to program the chip, but I can't get it to work. I run into an error in both. In WinPIC800 I get "Failed to Open Ind.#" and after some Google'ing, found out the driver didn't install correctly. (Windows 7 doesn't let you install unsigned drivers) After getting over that problem, I still have the same error(s) and can not program this dang chip.

Can anybody help me out?

PS: In the screen behind the error popup in WinPic800, it says "Opening GTP-USB+ Ind.#" and only that. I'm trying to program Hazer's Flex into it if that matters... Holy crap these verifications are very hard to read...

I bought the same programmer off ebay, its a hit or miss programmer as its is a cheap knock off with old firmware. Get a pickit 2/3 clone. It's around the same price. Save yourself from the headaches. But when I get home ill look for the program to use with that programmer as it doesn't work with any other software.

http://www.mcumall.com/USB_PIC_CD.zip
try that looks like the same one i got  itll auto download but it was the link given to from the seller also bought from ebay
have to install the driver so it can detect the com port
edit* windows 7 does let u install unsigned drivers trust me
the software for mine detects it as a com port so you have to go into the device manager to see what port was assigned  then in the software itself you have to manually set it to the correct com port if not it wont work
sorry im drunk as  :censored: right now lol lmk if it works

yes that is the software package i used. also the driver in there is a bit old. go to prolific website and download the latest drivers from there. i believe the latest pl2303 drivers are win 7 compatible.

Now that I'm using the new software I can give you new information, but sadly no it is still not working.

When I started the software for the first time, I get this error popup:

Reset failed: Please check...

Communications port, currently [COM3]
Board connections and power
Mode = [K150] Make sure this setting matches programming board

There is also a red light on whenever it is powered on, marked with "L3" on the board.

PS: The Prolific Serial to USB drivers are installed correctly and using COM3.

Plug in the use before opening the software. And make sure tour pic is in with the lever in the down position. Then start the program with administrative rights. If it still doesn't detect the programmer, then go into the settings, select com port, make sure it is the correct port and hit ok. Sometimes I have to do this 3- 5 times before it reads it.

I can't make a video but here is a screenshot. http://imgur.com/lORik

As you can see it is getting the COM port, but it can't "reset" the chip? The location of the chip in the display is also not where it really is, and I don't think it's getting that information. What is the red light for that is always on?

Here is a picture when I load the hex file and then hit program: http://imgur.com/YvaJD

After I hit confirm on that this pops up: http://imgur.com/SHsPw

Then a "received data error" error happens and it stops and "resets."

PS: I've tried using a 'fresh' chip and the same error/warning sequence occurs.

Position the chip exactly as pictured. And try using a different com port. Can you take a picture of how you have the chip position in the programmer as well?

Thank you! It worked! Turns out I had the chip orientated in the opposite fashion. (and was using the wrong software apparently of course)

Thank you guys, finally I can wire this up and try it out!  :drunk:

What is the best open source code to use that just requires wiring? I don't have any capacitors or resistors or anything right now and it's night time so can't go get any.

I was going to use Hazer's Flex, but it's not stealth and I don't have a switch or Dremel to make the hole with, so I need something stealth to try something out. (I really just want something super basic that will work with MW2, I really wanna try out jitter too if that's available)

I can't tell what controller I have... What else is there besides CG, CG2, Matrix, and Matrix 2? Because from the pictures I've seen it doesn't look like them.

It's more like a CG but it isn't the same as CG or CG2. On the right DPad button, the label SW15 is to the left of the contact, and directly under it is "PYKC C2X", with "94V-0" directly under that.

The comparison images of CG and CG2 show a horizontal resistor for CG and vertical for CG2, this one is horizontal.

How does this change things?
