iPhone 5: Still behind?
« on: September 14, 2012, 02:47:12 AM »

The iPhone 5 was announce September 12 2012 and Apple had a big event for majority of its new products. One of it's long awaited new products was the release of a new iPhone. The iPhone 5 is 18 percent thinner (0.30 inch vs. 0.37 inch thick) than the iPhone 4S. 20 percent lighter for a total of 3.95 ounces. As well as the screen has been upgraded from 3.5 to a 4 inch display. The new iPhone supports 4G LTE networks(AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless). The chip has been upgraded to an A6 processor, this means that Graphics will be faster as well as web pages load 2.1 faster and music apps will load 1.9 better.

Battery performance will differ on what you use the most on the iPhone 5. We're supposed to get 8 hours of 3G talk time, 8 hours of 3G browsing, 8 hours of LTE browsing, 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing, 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback, and 225 hours of standby time.

The main shooter, or the "iSight" camera, stays at 8 megapixels (with the best resolution being 3,264x2,448 pixels) with a feature list that includes backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, a five-element lens, and a f2.4 aperture. A dynamic light mode is new, and you should be able to launch photography apps up to 2.1 times faster. Another addition is an image signal processor in the A6 chip. That will bring spatial noise reduction and a "smart filter" that produces better low-light performance and captures photos faster. Finally, there's a built-in panorama mode that stitches shots together for one large 28-megapixel photo. Also thank you apple for finally upgrading the front facing camera to shoot in 720p HD video.

The new iPhone also has a new smaller dock connector called "lightning" it has an eight signal design as well as it's 80 percent smaller, and since it's reversible, both ends will be the same (That's cool I guess).

The iPhone 5 will be available in three capacity models, all of which will come in black and white versions. The 16GB is $199, the 32GB $299, and the 64GB $399. On September 21, it will go on sale in nine countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Now knowing the specs and the pricing and basically everything to know about the iPhone 5, is it still behind? Sad but true this year apple seem to be playing catch up on all of its gadgets. The features on the new iPhone are nice but there are a lot more smartphones out there such as the, Galaxy S3 and the Note and other popular Android phones out there that can either compare to the iPhone 5 or exceed it well past its specs. Ever year it has everyone as well as me, making a big decision to switch over to android because of the lack of the new things Apple is doing to their phones. I've been on an iPhone since the iPhone 3G and never even thoughts about switching until now. I think its the fact that apple are doing these small upgrades to its phones every event that they have. It would be way better and a bigger change if they made a dramatic change in its iPhone this time around, kinda like instead of changing the screen from 3.5 to 4.0 inch but from 3.5 to 4.5 inches and made the width of the phone increase so you can still hold it in one hand as well as still in joy a fairly large screen but I doubt the possibilities of that ever happening.

Finally I think this years iPhone event wasn't really hyped out to what it was supposed to be. The leak everything, rumors and all the info about the next gen iPhone made it a little dull. I just hope Apple can get back to giving the hype that their meant to be bringing. We're just have to wait and see, next year.
