PS3 Controller help
« on: September 06, 2012, 03:29:01 AM »
Hi, I need help to identify which two solder points in the pic are for power, the reason I ask is because the usb port on the controller has desintegrated over time and now I can't charge it so I want to bypass it by soldering power wires to the board and have those wires sticking out of the controller for charging, thanks.

you can buy a new usb port really cheap. and to replace is not that bad of a job.
but if all you want is the usb pin i will post it for you.

Thanks for your suggestion, I have a spare faulty board with a functioning USB connector unfortunately I am only capable of soldering one point at a time so I tried removing it  but failed miserably so for me the options are either replace the whole board or attach wires for charging, and I've run out of spare working boards so it's just the wires option, buying or getting a new board will take at least a couple of days and I want to be able to fix this today. ;) Cheers

First get your self  a desoldering device. And some wire braid. Then remove the old one. If you need help with removal, do a quick youtube search.
But as far as PS3 controllers go and charging , they need a usb host or a special charger. 2 wires wont charge it. it needs the whole usb connection to charge.

I did a quick youtube search and I see what you're saying now, I need to get some of those copper strips that stick to the solder and will see how it goes from there, thanks for helping this noob, much appreciated.
