Contest ideas

We are going to be starting the new winter mod off SOON, and i want to get some feedback from members and staff on what some of the parameters of the contest should be. IE: mod format, voting, identity, duration, etc.

Rodent has built a RGH Jasper Xbox 360 that he has donated to the contest. I have some Viking Chips up for grabs. If we chose to have an entry fee like last year that will be added to the main prize.

I'm liking the retro consoles idea. It should be about about 1.5 month length as this time of year, people want to be with their families. The voting should stay the same. This is all I can think of right now.

More members more excitement,  the last mod off was execllent, all though i didn't finish  mine... I moved on to other things. and it gave a chance for some other members to show there talent.   Reason I mentioned retro we seen alot of xbox 360 stuff.  My only other suggestion is  PS3 only.   or retro consoles older school stuff ps1 , ps2 , orignal xbox,   stuff with wired controllers  stuff that is little hard to do .

I think keeping the contestants anonymous is a good idea, and have the same duration as previous mod offs. A mod-off without 360's sounds crazy... lol. No restrictions on consoles?

I didnt say without 360's just said like to see something other then that, our PS3 and will Seciton is so far behind and Retro would show real modders talent.

I have seen some pretty amazing things done with Wii's. I am waiting on some stuff to finish up my Wii. Right now its just a chameleon case.

The retro Idea sounds great. But as stated may as well use ps3/wii as those sections do lack a little. just my opinion

Think you'll get some real good entries if you go retro, easy to pick up a ps1 for instance, anyone with $10 can write in, lol

Now so there is no confusion, what is retro. Anything pre-xbox360 and pre-ps3 where does that leave PSP? with the go and vita, is the psp now considered retro? what about computers etc?

I want to start the contest Monday Dec 17th. you will need an entry number which will need to be in all your photos, to prevent people from starting early. The contest will run through mid to the end of February. that will give two full months, and most will have free time off during xmass.

any other ideas?

Make sure people make a new media hosting account to host your images/videos, in previous mod offs you could tell who was who by looking at the image links to their profile on photobucket/youtube etc

I agree with Phantom, the youtube accounts are an easy way to give people away. I really like the retro idea, as you can easily pick up an old console and not be afraid of messing it up. You could even put a spending cap on each mod just to make it interesting as to what people can come up with when limited to a budget.

  I'm feeling controller mod off... I would rather not rip apart my console, and with controllers you can easily compare the features and looks on any platform.... who knows it could open up some more advanced source code access, not to mention maybe something old school will be updated in a cool way... like say a mouse or touch pad, maybe an old school controller from SNES or ATARI even... what kind of prizes will you be giving OUT for the winners?

I think Pc should be allowed. BUT I would not want to see someone win just because they have 4,000 in gear over a budget build. If you allow PC it should be limited to a certain part. IE case, keyboard or mouse. The retro Idea is great but that means some of us would have to hunt down a console for modding.

My thought is just to have it flexible enough for everyone to have easy access to something to mod.

What about an open mod off? Maybe just let who ever mod what ever and judge by creativity and finished products? Just an idea. I think It would leave the door open for people to get a bit more creative.
