as the title says, i have a couple of controllers that i was given by my friend who has a habit of breaking controllers. the last 2 i got from him wont work with batterys but if i plug them in via PnC kit they both power straight up. is this a common problem and if so is there a fix for it?

I would suspect the pack first. Then as said look at the solder points on the springs for the controllers

Yea like they said check you contacts and try a different battery pack, You can also look for like with some of my controllers ive have the bateries corrode and leak into the controller and get on the springs and such, you can usually fix it by cleaning it all off, if thats the case.

they are both matrix 1 controllers. i have tried all different battery pack, checked all the battery connection and cant find anything? it seems to be a complete mystery to me. i am thinking i may need to get a multimeter to check all of the contacts.

That would be wise. Have you tried a rechargeable pack?

Ive had battery packs mess up, i think there is alittle pin on the controller that pushes some metal thing in the battery pack to get it to work, like if i would bump my controller it would turn off, but if you have already done that then the next step imo would be the DMM.

The plastic post in the shell is for the AA battery pack only. It pushes on a contact inside the AA pack and closes it. If you also have issues with the PnC pack that's not the problem. It could be the problem for a AA pack, but not both.

The PnC packs EEPROM can get corrupt and need re-flashing, but if you're using a battery that works in another controller then it will in those also.

Check that R41 isn't damaged.

Look for corrosion around R15 and T1, also C24 and T4. These are common spots for crud to accumulate after being spilled in the controller and corrosion there eats thru traces and will keep the controller from working normally.

Check for continuity between the + pin of the PnC battery connector (far left of the 4 if looking at it from the top) and TP1 on the bottom of the board. If that's open, then you have a bad Via right above TP7. Which is an incredibly rare problem, but I've seen it 3 times on the wireless Matrix board now.

Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.
