Convert ps3 psu for 360?
« on: May 17, 2014, 03:25:57 PM »
Okay I'm looking on some advice, I recently came upon 2 ps3 slims and a Rrod xbox. The slims were supposed yellow light but one is have a froze green light, read gpu issue of sorts.

Anyway my question
I have seen Xbox psu used on ps3, atx psu used on both.
Now I don't have a psu for this 360 I have to even check the red ring. Now I have a ps3 slim
Psu rated 12v at 16amps and 5.5v at 0.9 amp. I know it's a little under rated for the 360 I'm using which takes 12v at 16.5 amp and 5v at 1.0 flat. I'm wondering now if I could get this to work.
Now any one could see they don't match up, but if I thought it was totally impossible I wouldn't have posted this.

Dont need no negative Nancy's around here so let's brainstorm, or someone tell me It won't work lol. My only atx psu I have is 12v at 4amp haha. :beg:

The PSU would most likely work but i wouldn't try running anything that might cause it to run at max capacity as that might end up stressing the PSU and could kill it.
Or you might just get the 3-RROD from lack of proper power.

but i doubt the second option will occur.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking maybe try running it without the DVD drive in. It has Rrod already so I couldn't really hurt the Xbox. I don't want to burn the psu out really. I think I'm going to look for a atx psu to use it would be all around safer too since the ps3 psu is oem and not made for anything but ps3.

Let me know if anyone comes by some info on this or if someone could verify this working or being plausible.
