LED Cube
« on: June 25, 2014, 01:39:07 AM »
Hey everyone! Its been a while!
Well, I'm not dead (I know, darn) and I have actually been up to things! I haven't really modded any consoles as of late, but I have been occupying my time with all sorts of projects, like this LED Cube. It was made for a final project in my tech classes, and I might do more coding on it in the future, who knows. I'm pretty happy with where its at right now.

Its a 6x6x6 cube, controlled by 7 595 shift registers controlled by an ATmega328. It has a 24x2 VFD display, four interface buttons and a real time clock. Almost every component in this thing was hand assembled. I have videos and many pictures of it if people really want me to upload it all.

I don't know what else to say, so feel free to say whatever!

My systems:  -PSP 2001, CFW and PSP 3000 shell.  -PSP 1001, LED mods, custom firmware, speaker mods, sound reactive LEDs.  -Black NDSL, LED mod, 0.5x and 2x speed mod.

I'd say it was! Some parts were pretty tedious (like the making of the cube), but if I can do surface mount, why not a cube of LEDs?

It was a fun way to waste time

This should be your next project: make the whole cube into SMD LEDs.  That would take some time and talent.

nice that looks pretty cool.
Now do a 16x16x16 RGB cube, 4096 leds, 16384 legs to solder :O.

Nice job bro!

I noticed you used the word "pixels" .... shouldn't it be voxels instead of pixels?

(Voxels are 3D pixels)

Hehe SMDs are not bad for me, but being a surface mount parts, itd be hard to create multiple layers.

I think maybe 16³ is a little much for me.. This 6³ cube was tedious enough to solder together! :P

Thanks!
And yup, it should be referred to as a voxel, but its such a strange word and I'm willing to guess not a lot of people know about it :P
