Every year i always make some kind of led project for Halloween. Whether it be for a customer or my own, there's always something to make.
This year i am mixing it up and started using plcc-2 leds. These are just standard lighting for my kids pumpkin to light up.
Attached is a sample photo of the board:
These boards will be powered by batteries using a dc-dc step up power supply. Using 2xAA batteries at 3v it will convert to 5v with an output current between 500ma-600ma, which is plenty since my boards has 6 leds at 20ma each.
This was used with last years Halloween milk-o-lantern and a 3v power supply (2xAA) lasted a full 4 days!
I can link to the fleabay auction if allowed. They are dirt cheap from China!
I will also be making a similiar sized board for some 0805 smd slow changing rgb leds. This will be running on the same power supply as the pumpkins but will be used for some hanging ghosts.
here is the rgb board:
This is a test mock up to make sure everything works. This is 6 white plcc-2 leds running off 3v(2x AA1.5v batteries) into a dc-dc step up converter.
Output is 5v running at about 120mA total.(need a better DMM to test)
Anyone know of a good way to diffuse the leds? i think these will be a bit too bright for pumpkins.
