Earphone Help...
« on: June 06, 2018, 03:05:54 AM »
Can anybody help me figure out the circuit layout of earphones? I know that there are three different colors, usually red, blue-ish and tan; but I have no ideas as to which ones are the positive and negatives. Since I don't have any tools to check this out, I'm here asking anyone if they can lend a helping hand.

Going by the wire color is not really accurate, as that will vary from manufacture to manufacture.

You really need at the least a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) so you can ohm out the lines to each other to know what is really what.

You could just try different wiring schemes until you get it right, there are only 6 possible combinations there and only one of them will both sound right, as well as work right when you change the balance from Left to Right.

Tip - Ring - Shield

Blue - Red - Gold
Blue - Gold - Red
Gold - Blue - Red
Gold - Red - Blue
Red - Blue - Gold
Red - Gold - Blue
Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.
