RT LT constantly pressed ?
« on: December 13, 2020, 05:44:27 AM »
1697 model would not power up, so replaced u1 and u2, this wasn?t the fault , turn out it was c36, replaced that now powering up. Now both lt and rt are pressed? Any ideas what I?ve done please, or what it could be ? Spent hrs on this thing, just learning as I go. Thank you in advance

Problem should be on the MCU board, but could be any number of things.

Shorted Cap on the VDD rail for the Halls, C33, C37
U9 could be bad or not getting 3.3v
Any Resistor/Caps related to U9 could be bad, C32, C32, R37, R38, R40, R41
MCU that controls U9 could be bad
Filter networks after the Halls, C36, C38, R39, R42
Any of the traces and vias that connect all of that mess together
Firmware on the controller
I'd doubt both Hall Sensors are bad, but that's on the table as well
Screwing up is one of the best learning tools, so long as the only thing you're not learning is how to screw up.

I would toss it in the for parts donor board section. Even if you diagnose exactly where the fault is, when both triggers go you will find yourself fixing it again later or needing another donor board to fix it properly anyway.

Like RDC said it could be anything when both triggers go.

But usually in my experience its bad firmware, which you can fix on the Xbox itself but if the controller doesnt have an update available you usually cant go back and forth so the controller is a lost cause at that point because at that point the firmware will only temporarily fix it.
