DualShock model identifier software
« on: October 14, 2018, 06:41:01 PM »
DS4Id is a little tool to help identify a DualShock 4 controller model without having to take it apart. You just run the software on your Windows PC, connect the DS4 to the PC with a USB cable and click on the Identify button.

This will help choose a suitable DS4 device for use with various controller mods.

I would like to make a list of all possible combinations of hardware and software versions, so if you run this on a controller and the info doesn't match an existing entry in the list below, please add it in a reply post and I will update the list. I will also update the tool to correctly identify the board type (ie JDM-0XX) based on the hardware version.

I would like to thank you for this wonderful work..

This takes me to ask you a question. Where are the analog points on the motherboard to make bridges for the damaged base points.

Someone made a software tool, so you decided to reply asking about a hardware question?

Not saying they don't know the answer, but that's kind of hijacking a thread. If you have a question about test points or where traces go, make a new thread. The PCB scans thread might already have the info you need as well.

The link is fine. Try another browser or right click and save link as and/or turn off whatever spam/virus blocker you have running.

This tool would have come to so much use for me had I seen this post one year ago xd

One thing to note for future users: when DS4Windows is running, the tool identifies any controller as a JDM-001. I suppose that's the board being emulated in their software. You have to close DS4Windows or any other similar software before running this tool. After closing DS4Windows it correctly identified a JDM-055 I tried it with.

So presumably CLONE-8301 is a knock-off?  I have an old PS4 controller that is reporting as that.  If it is a knock-off, it is a VERY good one.  The motherboard doesn't look quite like any pictures I can find in the internet, but it looks and feels like a genuine controller (I've used it for many, MANY hours).  I also have a genuine 2nd gencontroller (purchased from Target) and they feel and play very similar. It even has (what claims to be) a Sony battery inside - inside the plastic case, not a bare lipo like I see elsewhere.

But the main board looks a little strange.  The main chip is not a BGA, but has pins on all 4 sides.  And the soldering job on the power connector and potentiometers is kinda garbage:

I DID run into trouble getting it to pair to a particular firmware version on an 8bitdo adapter for the Switch.

With this software it identifies as

Code: [Select]
CLONE-8301 hw=v100.8301 sw=v1000.1012 series=1000
Date:       May 28 2014
Time:       13:05:45
HW Version: v100.8301
SW Version: v1000.1012
SW Series:  1000
Code Size:  0x38000
