instead of finding a new solder point you could just add a resistor.

Yeah, resistors are definitely the way to go, finding a weaker power point that's still strong enough/not still too powerful is gonna be hard.  And I doubt googling would help, cause most people just use resistors, so no one would have found a weaker point.
