Title: launch 60gb PS3 wont boot.
Post by: 1TONpete on September 25, 2011, 05:51:27 AM
A client brought me a launch 60gb to try and fix. I took it apart and cleaned it. As it was filthy. Changed the thermal paste. It still just shuts off right away. I would really like to bring this 60gb back. Anyone with some info please help.
Side note I am also looking for a slim laser assembly.

think it needs a reflow. Thanks man. I checked the power supply , I have a few laying around.
It was very dirty when I got it. I cleaned it and did a thermal paste job but still nothing.
Put it aside for now. Might have another one coming if I can find one to trade for it.

Check to see what the leds are doing on the front of the PS3 when you turn it on , see if it just goes red or if there yellow in between them.

It flashes red real quick no yellow. Then shuts right off. Need to unbox it and have another look at it.
Rodent I might take you up on that. I should set up a reflow station again. I have a few things needing reflow and some one asked me to do a few for them too. I know i can do it.  I reflowed my e74.  Just dont think Ill ever have enough time. I need to light a fire under Darkknight and get him to help w this work load.
I would like to make it so he can take care of my regular work. Like rf's and paint work and maintenance. So I can concentrate on building big stuff.

I had 2 update bricks and they just get stuck in service mode. This one won't do anything.

Since its not YLOD It has to be the powersupply and even if it died during an update you should be able to access the safe mode and reflash it

im with coregamer on this one, one of my friends had (or maybe still has) a 60gb launch ps3, they thought maybe it was YLOD, google told me that its a issue with a faulty power supply.
if i could get it back from him (he bought a new slim) i might try messing around with some other power supply and see if i can get it to work.
im just not sure, is it a straight just 12v like in a ps2 or are there several voltages on the ps3 ones?

I think there are 12v,5v and 3.3v points

Unbolt the power supply leave everything hooked up and check the points inside the power supply that plug on to the board should read 12 volts there, when you turn it on might only flash for a second...and if its not getting anything maybe take a look inside might have a blown cap not alwaying the power supply to start up fully.
