I have ordered some of the replacement parts yesterday, July 13 2013.
I have also started gathering image reference resources for my controller mod.

Materials I am going to use:
Paint
Resin
Minor amounts of either bondo or Sculpy
Custom Shell and other custom parts (ordered. Is this cheating?)

Win or lose, this project is going to be SUPER fun! Glad I get to participate!

Excellent! I got 90% of my extras today. Just waiting on the rest :D

Does anyone know the heat tolerance of these custom shells? I need to know if I can subject one to 200 degrees F for 15 minutes. :D

sounds like he is trying to powder coat the shell, you will melt the shell at 200 degrees. People use hydro dipping for plastic

I am going to use skulpie to reshape parts of the controller. I need to bake the shell with skulpie on it for 15 minutes at 200 degrees. I was thinking logically, that if I left my controller in my car that gets around 300 degrees inside during the summer and the shell doesn't melt, I'd be ok.

Is it ok to let the proverbial cat out of the bag? I think you guys are going to like my idea :)

Well, I have decided to nix the sculpie idea, even though I think the shell can handle it... My plan has evolved a but to be cleaner. Sculpie is a bit messy, especially when using in non-conventional means.

I have all of my materials now; both for modding and implementation. How do I keep a log other than photos? Post here my progress?

Here is a pic of all of my stuffs:

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs12.postimg.org%2Flud69ud4p%2F1002856_10151726165233421_1664275764_n.jpg&hash=a037b7a1911d51fbabf90ac3dd0a42fd69bc704a) (http://postimg.org/image/lud69ud4p/)

One thing you don't see in this pic is a surprise :) Something I have not seen in a mod yet. I'll save that for the final reveal...

OK. Went to WallyWorld last night and got some more tools to create my controller mod. Additionally, today I ordered my LEDs for the home button mod. This will be my first time soldering anything... So, wish me luck! lol...

Thanks to those who have encouraged me to do the LED step! I am actually pretty excited!

NOTE TO MODs: Can I use this thread as my journal? It is time-stamped and I like to give as much detail as possible.

Good Luck learning to solder, there are alot of good videos on youyube that will help you.

And i would think this tread would be fine to use as a journal, don't see the need in  creating a new thread.

make sure you clean the tip and use flux also tin all parts before soldering and you should have great success with soldering , make sure your iron is hot ,

OK... Construction officially starts this weekend. I have  A LOT to do! However, it will be a nice distraction from everything else that is going on :) Wish me luck lads!

P.S. I will be taking tons of pics. I will show which tools I am using for each process/mod. I will also give a good description as to how I use the tools. That way, the document becomes a tutorial AND something for y'all to critique for my next go at this :)

SO EXCITED!

Adding the Ship Hull Paneling...

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs16.postimg.org%2Fs6cm3vt41%2F968874_10151750461943421_1466008217_n.jpg&hash=50dcf4e70b025bc3ceb139158395743be036f1dd) (http://postimg.org/image/s6cm3vt41/)

I used a regular #2 pencil to sketch on the panel lines.

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs16.postimg.org%2Fr5cderc4h%2F1003335_10151750460958421_273278672_n.jpg&hash=537ba5d749f127a8782893675f7c9e782f7dec95) (http://postimg.org/image/r5cderc4h/)
Here you can see in the background, that I used some of my woodblock print carving tools to engrave the lines.

(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs16.postimg.org%2F7orns8h0h%2F1006041_10151750461138421_1540748222_n.jpg&hash=4f3ac8bc0f19a22a0062b2bd5f0beff3dede57d6) (http://postimg.org/image/7orns8h0h/)
Here is another view of the controller with the panel lines.

I am going to refine the lines a little more then use some analogous colored paint (a burnt orange) to accentuate some of the minor panels.

So, here it is... Cat out of the bag. I am modding my controller to look like the Twin Pod Could Car from Empire Strikes Back :D

Alrighty! Here is my last post for the contest! Thanks for letting me play along. I didn't get everything I wanted to done with this, so when I do, I'll come back and post more picks/video. Without further blabbage, here is my controller rendition of a Twin-Pod Cloud Car featured in the Empire Strikes Back.

Here is the video reveal. I don't know why it didn't take, nor did the descriptions I added to each image above (which also posted in a different order than I wanted.) ANYway, This project was so fun! Thanks again for letting me join in on the fun. If anyone has questions, I'm glad to answer.

@gameroms: Yeah, I am going to learn how to solder a bit and add light blue LEDs. I already have the LEDs, just not the courage ;)

@Modded Matt: That is my original xbox 360 controller... From like 8 or so years ago ;) That thing saw three xbox360 originals and my new slim before one of my kids dropped it and the left bumper went out on it.

Thanks for the compliments! I am SO excited about this modding stuffs :D really hits the hobby-spot!

Well, I am 36 now... Not too young, not too old ;) Honestly, soldering scares the :censored:e out of me, but I will learn. I met this dude at the print shop where I work the other day. He is a retired RCA veteran! He is going to show me the ropes :D Rather serendipitous no?

Thanks :D I am going to take this down to my local gaming shop (xbox, RPGs, Warhammer, that kind of place) and display it for mod/personalization services. Have some friends that own the shop.

I am REALLY hoping that there will be all of the materials and stuffs for the new xbox 1 controllers :beg:!

I'm working on another controller :) And next Wednesday I have an appointment with an ex RCA engineer to learn how to solder. Will post pics of the new controller when I can. Should I do it in a different thread?
