Apple is known for keeping its new gadget release dates relatively secret, but news of the iPad 3 may have revealed its release date.
Apple (Stock Quote: AAPL) sent out invitations Tuesday for a press event on March 7 to unveil the newest iPad. While the invitation doesn’t specifically mention the iPad 3 (Apple always likes to play coy until the last minute), it does show a close-up picture of an iPad along with the words, “We have something you really have to see. And touch.”
The date of the event matches previous rumors about when Apple would announce the new tablet. However, the actual release date for the product is still unknown. If Apple follows tradition, consumers in the U.S. should be able to buy the iPad 3 by mid-March.
Last year, Apple unveiled the iPad 2 on March 2 and it was available for purchase in stores nine days later on March 11. There were no pre-orders for the device. Instead, customers had to wait to order online until March 11 and the first deliveries began to show up on people’s doorsteps as soon as March 14.
Just based on that timetable, if Apple unveils the iPad 3 on March 7, customers can expect it to hit store shelves and be available online for delivery as soon as March 16. Mark it down on your iCalendar

any specs? Every year they have to put out a new one? dont they know people with the 3g version have a two year contract...

ipad doesnt generally have a contract - its a rolling 30day contract that can be canceled any time mostly - there are some operators that do offer subsidized ipads on 2 year contracts but they are a small % of overall ipad users

from what i've heard it is just the retna display 2 HD camera's and 4gLTE.

yeah, at best buy when i sell an ipad with 3g i can activate it with a 2yr contract, a pay-as-you-go type plan, or no plan whatsoever

ya it really depends on the provider... also a fun note you can never be charged more that $30 in overages on an ipad on any plan from any provider.... it is a cool side note (that includes roaming)

I know Apple doesnt do much for upgrades, it's always just "a little" better.. but damn, even they didn't call it the Ipad 3 because it's not THAT much better than the Ipad 2.

nah a screen that nice and a gpu that beefy in a tablet is a pretty big improvement. much better than any tablet out there right now. the chip they have powering is meant to be 4x as powerful as a tegra3 although i will hold judgment on that till full unbiased benchmarks are done. then you have some of the other improvements in connectivity as a sprinkling on top.
definitely a worthwhile update. anyone know of a tablet with specs/quality/formfactor that beat it please let me know

dont mess with tablets. infact. i have never touched one.. except for at walmart and wouldnt go back on the stand.. and the cord wasnt long enough to sit it else where.. :censored: :angry:
